Ok it's time for a new low poly modeling contest and this time it's going to run for a longer period of time. The deadline is July 21st

The title is pretty much self explanatory: Model anything that can be used to kill someone/something. May it be pistols, rocket launchers, laser guns, rocks or knives, anything is allowed. Be creative, invent your own weapons.

    The limitations are:

    - 300 tris

    - 128x128 max texture resolution (color, bump/normal, specular and transparency)

    The final entries should include:

    - A rendered scene

    - A screenshot of the model inside the modelling program

    - The texture sheets

    Have fun guys

    300 tris?

I know 300 tris is more than enough, that way people can go wild with their entries.

    ... ok we'll go for 128x128 then.

ok I'm very rusty at modelling (haven't modelled in like 3 or 4 months) and put this generic weapon together just for the sake of it. I know the design pretty much sucks but it's not going to be my entry so... just to get warmed up

    (260 tris)

    first attempt at texturing (256x256):

Are you guys sure 128x128 is good ? It looks horribly blurry... you can barely put any detail in it.

Ugh, 128x128 looks horrid for lowpoly.

Allthough I barely moddle, I think 256*256 texres will deliver better candy.

are you kidding, 128x128 for 300 tri is enough for making badass guns, that's just a lame example

I did plenty of cool weapons around 150 tri and a 128x128 like this

of course earlier and not for the compo, but gives you a better idea

i am just messing with hessi ... it is 213 triangles its kinda like polygone cutout instead of alpha map and than a couple of carefully chose verts in the center that i moved out to allow for a little bit of fake perspective if the weapon was to be used with gun delay or something that it wouldn't be too obvious that it is basically a sprite

indeed, but the kind of game that needs sprites for weapons is probably not going to support normal or bump maps, and will have a limit of 1 or 2 tris for the sprite itself.

Looks nice, thinking outside the box but not applicable to most games I dunno if that was the point of the comp tho S:
