m8nkey my man, things are definitely looking better now. all i'd say there's missing now is some dirt to cover the streets. it's a bit too clean still, and to me that's a spot down the uncanny valley of level design. i understand your problem though, because while other places have the option to include [barrels, crates] or other props, there is a restrictive number of items that would fit inside of this theme. if i had to suggest something other than a google on "financial district" or "downtown", i'd probably be construction work or repair or some unique buildings with unique decoration on their facade.

Thanks Punky
RA7: Glad you approve mate. I'm working on a LanmaniaX billboard and another, more obscure reference too (you'll know it when you see it
)Thanks for the crits Sentura, you always raise very valid points. I'm trying to lean towards the opposite spectrum of the uncanny valley, highly stylised as apposed to realistic. I had considered a building under construction, surrounded by scaffolding so that might make an appearance. I'll be interested to here what you think after the next update.

Whoa, you have a really awesome map on your hands m8nkey.

One thing I really think it needs is more signage. More street name signs, more road signs (the green ones), more warning signs, more subtle sings and perhaps more advertising!
And I agree with you, those trees do a decent job but it could be better, I don't think those trees add as much to the map as they could.
I didn't notice any grates and drains in the screenshots, perhaps that might be a nice addition

you've come a long way. i think you've exploited the outside geometry to its maximum extent, so for me it would be all about props placement and general decoration. i'm not sure how you're going to make the building facades more appealing, but consider statues or the like, as well as banners hanging down. i still get the overall feeling of emptiness when i look at those shots. use more trash on streets and sidewalks, get some dumpsters in some alleys. also, when using spraypaint overlays, never use just one. make a few so it seems there have been different gangs trying to "tag" their territory. it adds to the immersion.
the overall props and decorations also extends to the inside (where i do think you could make architectural changes that would improve the overall feeling of the map).

Eh guy, i'm french and i think i can help you.
I need to grow up my skills and portfolio, so, i'm ready to make 2/3 props models right now and if you're satisfied, maybe some others.
PM me, i don't use MSN.
Or use this forum : i just need reference pictures, dimensions and .dxf objects.

First post updated. Thanks to Em' for his ongoing model contributions.

Those are like 25 foot pool tables

-
buildings could use trims with different textures to break up the monotomy and bland look, things are starting to look better though!
-
Thanks Pampers, I'll consider adding trims.

I think the pooltable dimensions look reasonable when compared to hostages.

When i made this model, I use the real world scale dimension.
But I in accord with Jean-Paul, they (the pooltables) aren't very realistic !
I think M8nkey that you extend to much the scale of the model. But it's my opinion !

And I don't know if you even play pooltable, but It's not so large !
So yes it's like an arcade game, but I think you need to rescale or just put the forst version of the model. Maybe show us the result with the comparison to the hostages ? (?)
