I like Cid's theme in FF7... but certainly not the best ever. FF8 had the best music in my opinion and the best theme song in a Final Fantasy game so far (FFX's was good too, though).

MGS2 has very nice soundtrack too.

The Command & Conquer series has awesome music.

Half Lifes "music" is pretty good, although its mostly just background ambience.

Quake, Alice, Anachronox, Deus Ex, Castlevania, Earth Bound, Smash Brother Melee (sans the Donkey Kong rap), Wipeout (all PC versions and Fusion - you can actually download newer versions from the guys website that are better quality than originally released ), the Sonic games have had some great tracks as well, Burn:Cycle, and I guess that's all I can think of at the moment. Though I'm sure I'm forgeting some things.

And Gameboy sounds are awesome. Anyone who says otherwise can bite my shiny metal ass.

PS - The guy who did music for the first two Wipeout games goes by ColdStorage... you can find his stuff there - http://%7boption%7d

Yeah, almost forgot about Mafia. That game had the most fantastic action/thriller music piece. If only I could find somewhere to get it...

Donkey Kong Country 2, Grim Fandango, the Monkey Island series, Metal Gear Solid series, and Silent Hill 4. All outstanding, and I cannot recommend them enough.

    Good man!

EDIT: This is great, but the best Mafia tune is the dramatic score that comes on whenever some action takes place. Get me that, and I'll kiss ya fucking dalmations, as John McClane would say.
