Its like my flat turns into Mapcoria and I'm the only one missing

Yeah, well same position in theory, work might differ a bit though from my usual day-to-day work in Frankfurt as dependencies and everything is completely shifted (for starters, the 9-hour time delay makes direct communication during work hours pretty hard). I hope I can go more into details once I'm there.

Sleep during the day. Work during the night. If Carmack did it - you can do it, too.

Those of you who follow the 'Pirates of New Horizons' blog have read that the project's future is looking grim at the moment.
I will handle Exit Strategy Entertainment related matters on the side from now on and dedicate most of my time to iVenture Capital as a 'Business Intelligence Analyst' . They're growing a portfolio of game companies and I will help them to accomplish this. The job is basically like being James Bond but with less firearms and more spreadsheets.I know this will probably not apply to many users here, but if you're working on a f2p app or online game, you can show first results of the game's performance and you're looking for smart money - drop me a PM. We're also looking for programmers, designers and artists to join the studios we've invested in. If that sounds interesting to you hit me up as well.

sad to hear about PoNH
Congrats on the new job none the less, being a proper games-industry insider in a Venture Capital you can at least support other indies now
-
Oh that is really sad.
Genuinely feel bad as hell about that, I was really hoping to enjoy that game in the end (Big pirate fan!). I guess funding development really is hard as you hear in the headlines, no?Hopefully a savvy company will see the potential and pick it up so your work can be completed (even if not with the original team), so all that hard work and particularly that beautiful art doesn't evaporate into memory. At the very least, lots of great portfolio material right?
-
What a bummer!

-
Oh man that's really sad news, I was looking forward to it so much

-
this is sad, i was rooting for you guys. i saw warby's status update a while back but i didn't consider it to be on the brink of closing down the studio. have you tried looking into kickstarter? and will you release a post mortem at some point perhaps?
-
Yea man you should look into kickstarter if you haven't. The colorful quirky games usualy do pretty well over there. The new Giana Sisters game has already reached around 40% of their 150k goal after like 8 days. And it's not like Giana Sisters ever was a big name outside Germany afaik.
-
Sorry for letting you down folks! All isn't lost yet, but it's a too big of a job for such a small team and finding an investor/publisher for a singleplayer console game is damn near impossible these days. I'm very skeptical we would be able to acquire the amount of money we're looking for through Kickstarter (especially after you have deducted all the fees).
-
Kickstarter is a good idea, I've seen some surprising success stories on there. Conversely, some I thought would do great actually didn't. I guess it's largely down to how well you market the idea of the game and what you show — at least with so much development already you have a lot in that department rather than shallow promises. If you can name drop past employers and stuff in the description, even better.

It is a lot of effort and I'd understand if you all just wanted to move on, but something to consider as a last ditch attempt if all else fails. The worst that can happen is you don't get fully funded, in which case Kickstarter awards nothing.

As Frie explained, ESE is pretty much in hibernation by now. I have re-opened my consulting firm (design/tech/management) and have since the beginning of August been helping out at Threaks, another cool indie studio here in Hamburg - check out our game BeatBuddy!
So I guess you can also file me under freelance contractors. Feel free to add my linked also: http://www.linkedin.com/in/michaelzacker

Success on kickstarter is all about marketing and you could easily do well with the media and demo you have available.

I assume you guys have considered all this though. Shame. Hope it all works out okay.

I guess you can remove me from ESE over to Rock Pocket Games. Still programmer
