I doubt my computer will even run it until I upgrade, which will be next spring I think. ![]()

models have always given off stencil shadows.

Aren't these stencil shadows? If yes, they're new to Source tech.

Nah, they look to me like a overall improved projected shadows algorithm. Or those "non-gameplay" parts are ray-traced

-
self shadowing?
HL2 doesn't have "non-gameplay" parts... (ie. cutscenes)
-
Well Valve does use scripted scenes for trailers and stuff but its not the same thing as the cg "gameplay footage" that other guys try to pass off on people.

Yes, but thats a movie cuttet from gameplay parts. Maybe Valve has cuttet some ray-traced movies in, you know? I know that HL2 has no cutscenes, ive played it myself.
Quoteself shadowing?
Yes. Self Shadowing. Logically. And how is self shadowing realized? Except projected texture shadows and stencil shadows (forget the Z-buffered shadows, they suck ass)?

They've said there's new/improved lighting coming with ep2, so why not?

Nope, HL2 models use projection maps for shadows. One of the ways they get the sometimes rather complicated shadowing going without a too big performance hit.

Nope, that is selfshadowing which is demonstrated there and yep it's new.

Nope, Valve have never used ray traced movies in any of the HL games, so I really doubt that.
