Did anyone read it?
Also talk about the many other Agreements in software you don't read.
I have never read more than a few sentences of all of the ones I'm come across.

Nobody reads them. If someone does wrong somewhere Valve can point to that agreement and say "Don't say we didn't warn you" ![]()
Would anyone read it RD.
im beginning to see the point of this thread.
I just read some of it and I it looks just fine to me.
QuoteYou may use, reproduce and modify the SDK solely to develop a modified game (a "Mod") for Half-Life 2 or other Valve products compatible with and using the Source Engine. You may reproduce, distribute and license the Mod in object code form, solely to licensed end users of Half-Life 2 or other compatible Valve products, without charge.
So all those mods who are planning to sell their end-product are kind of fucked.
They Hunger signed a liscensing and distribution deal. A lot of mods I've seen floating around and trying to score their own deals or do it themselves through Paypal. Of course they have zero leverage, so I'm sensing that their plans aren't going to work.
Uh. Can you give an example mod who is doing that, Fletch?
I'll agree that the whole point of making a mod seems to be lost these days. Seems that every mod team with the execption of a small percentage only started the mod to try and score a deal with valve and turn it into an idividual game. I think dystopia and incoming source were/are trying to do that.
read the first two words of his post, curman
Yeah, it's pretty daft S8. The sad thing is that pretty much all of these mods will/did end up being fairly boring since they've just gone for the style and glamour of modding rather than, you know, making an actual fun game. Garry's Mod is pretty much the only HL2 modificaiton that I've seen play true to what it's all about, and that's creating a unique, fun game in a fairly unplanned fashion. It started out as a little personal experiment, and yet ended up being a phenominally popular mod -- kind of like the big HL1 mods (CS, DoD) which ended up Valvified.

Nobody reads these, and companies know this.
I doubt they would hold up in court, for anything with an EULA that would actually send someone to court. (I can't think of a good example right now
). So basically it doesn't really hold as a contract.

I hope that explains, in detail, my utter disgust with the modding community these days. Thank you! i'm up for childrens shows btw.
agreed
totally agree, the fun is gone and almost all theres left are wannabe pros
almost like the hardcore player community, they all think they are pro players........
Isn't the "we're making a mod but we are counting on being bought"-phenomenon more or less only to be found in the HL community?
I would think that most people in charge of these mods have looked at CS and DOD and want to be the next to receive a bag of money from Valve.
I wonder what would happen if Valve came out and said "ok, we will never ever in a billion years buy another mod". The day after, Planethalflife would probably be covered with news-storys regarding mod-cancelletions.
The rest of the mods would probably schedule their beta-release for year 1 000 000 002 005
