What do you think about the new look?

All right, I guess the automatic insertion is still a bit ropy so using 'Insert other media' to insert them like the old image button might be more reliable.

In your case though @jackophant there is clearly an issue there, from looking in the console that particular URL is causing a parsing error so my guess is that the inserter is struggling to read it as the URL of an image. It is quite unusual for an image to not have any kind of extension, so it's probably just a bug. For now I can only suggest attaching it or throwing it on imgur.

@Thrik A bug on whose part? The parser for not recognising an image, or steam for failing to provide a file extension?

Up until the last couple of months or so, Steam had a different method of delivery for their screenshots. Based on the URL, it looks like they now use the akamai content delivery network, which apparently forgoes the file extension. I'm not holding my breath for it reappearing again.

I don't know if I have brain damages and I became really stupid, but on the mobile version, I am struggling with quotes, when I want to delete one in a reply, well I can't, and I kinda end up posting something with the wrong quote or an empty quote because I cannot delete it, but at first it worked if remember right.

To avoid this, I just used the @.. thingy but it doesn't appear all the time. Also, when I scroll up to read again posts I want to reply to, then scroll down and continue typing, weird things happen. Like letters won't appear, words and spaces dissappear when Samsung spelling corrector finish my words. (Everything's great on my laptop though, and I have a four months old galaxy s4, so I guess it isn't broken, there is a weird logic behind that I suppose? I kinda feel stupid with all that!)

It's probably a bug or limitation of the parser, which I'll pass along to its developers. Even without the extension, the Akamai server is probably still passing the correct MIME type in its header which allows web browsers to display it. The parser likely isn't examining the file itself at all, simply trying to understand what it is based on URL.

@laminutederire the only way to remove quotes on mobile seems to be selecting the text within them and deleting it all, and then the quote disappears after a final backspace.

Sometimes the editor goes a bit wonky on touch devices. albeit less since a patch I applied earlier this week. In such cases, closing the keyboard and touching the editor again fixes it for me.

@Thrik I see, then my issue is that I have a smiley face in the quote that I can't delete or even select, which should be the reason why I cannot delete the quote, if I understand correctly ? (Nevermind I finally erased it, I needed to write down some things down, then selecting all; and finally deleting)

Yeah, also refreshing the page does work too, but that's not very important, we can live with that

Is there a way to stop the forum from remembering each post you make per thread? Everytime I want to make a new post it comes up with the old again instead of a blank form, damn annoying...

Or you could just finish your posts for once :P

@D3ads I don't think so. I believe that it uses your web browser's local storage, so that if you get an error while submitting, accidentally refresh, etc then your post will survive. I've lost a lot of posts over the years due to such things so it seems more good than bad.

Also Sprony is right, stop half-writing posts man.

In terms of typing posts I'm having a bit less problems, but the editor is still doing its own thing behind the scenes…

ie: tapping return for a new line something interferes with the OS and keyboard doesn't capitalise neither goes back to letters if you had the numbers out. Autocorrect doesn't fully work properly, but seems improved.

i had the problems like @laminutederire of words not displaying while typing and had to refresh page several times, but now it's been a while doesn't happen.

The thing that I find annoying the most is at the very roots: the new elastic design hasn't a proper viewport set, because page keep re-adjusting, doesn't zoom out to full view after posting for eg. And stuff like that.

I'll pass the feedback on, I did poke around and it's basically using a customised version of a widely used editor (CKEditor). The technical difference between it and the old mobile editor is that previously it was just a basic text input with no formatting ability, which Safari (and probably Android browsers) find easier to work with in terms of auto-correct, etc.

A rich editor like this uses a completely different mechanism, which Safari is currently still a bit iffy with. I've noticed this on all kinds of sites that use this way of editing, so hopefully a combination of Safari updates and forum updates will get things into a better state before long. Still, at least now I can format on my phone without needing to insert tags, which is a huge PITA.

As for the viewport, there is actually a viewport set but it's not a fixed width. This is best practice as limiting the web browser's ability to zoom in is extremely bad for accessibility, although in Safari at least it does cause the quirk you mention of the view not resetting to the fully zoomed out view when the editor is unfocused. Perhaps some scripting or adjusting can fix this, I'll pass it on and perhaps even have a stab at myself to help them out, as it irritates me too.

The 'New Content' button only seem to show recent posts and not list up stuff you haven't read yet : <

There are options on that page that let you specify the time period and/or whether it just includes stuff you haven't read. :D

Thanks for the clarifications Thrik, really appreciate all the effort you're putting into this, wish I could help more than this.

Just want to point out that recently I've been using Chrome on iOS, posts in the last weeks came mainly from there when on mobile, and the viewport problem is the same here.

I know that fluidity serves accessibility better, but shouldn't there be a way to enlarge text instead of zooming and scrolling? This translates to the desktop as well, I don't think the adaptive design has been properly studied: eg if I'm not full screen and CTRL+, you get to the weird situation where text enlarges but all columns and pictures shrink. I know the intentions (and result) makes the website readable everywhere, but other websites do it better in my opinion. If all this is noticeable and feels out of place, is because this doesn't happen everywhere else.

Is it just me or does Mapcore feel very slow these days?

Also i had an idea. What do think of adding a Mapcore Wiki to the website? This way it would be easier to collect useful threads and user-made tutorials without losing them out of sight in the forums. Things like Hammer Tips&Tricks, playtest routines, useful configs etc etc would have a nice place there. Watcha thiiink?

yeah it's slow as fuck for me. takes 2-3 minutes to load a picture heavy page.

wiki sounds like a great idea.

The search is useless (and capped at 1 search every 6 seconds?) so I tend to google the thread im looking for as a faster option, on top of that, pages are very slow to load, especially the "new content" page.

A minor gripe I have with the mobile side of things, I'm not sure if it's just me but I'll post my specs anyway:

Nexus 6 Build number LMY47Z, Android 5.1.1, using latest build of Chrome (43.0.2357.93) at time of writing using the default Google Keyboard (My prefered method of entry is swiping, but I think this irrelevant).

So the problem I'm having is autocorrect, specifically on this website is a car crash. When you opt to change the word to what is correct, it just slaps the autocorrection down wherever the cursor is, often in the middle of the word. You then try and backspace this and rely on autocorrect again but it does something else crazy. So imagine this problem nested and that's sort of what my text entries look like before I give up and type letter by letter. Also while typing, the cursor will jump up or down lines seemingly at random.

    Let me illustrate my frustrations:

    [Blocked Image: http://i.imgur.com/ABYOpLI.png]

I was struggling to replicate it, and had originally writen: "Hello how are you today, this is a boring message" and then proceeded to autocorrect each word in turn as I couldn't organically reproduce my frustrations. You can see where it's fallen over on "today" which insert "to say" right in the middle of it, as well as "message" having "messiah" plonked in the middle of it. It's really hit and miss.

I'm not expecting a quick fix, just wanting to make people aware.
