so, a new CS:S map from valve
-
-
I saw those pictures on HL2.net and thought they were some shitty mod maps

-
I think we should keep in mind that this was a map being made by just one guy (or at least thats how the older update news sounded to me) - there are no custom resources for it by the looks of things (while all other CS:S maps use mostly unique resources), so its really to be expected that its not of the usual Valve quality.
That said, it really does look a bit amatuer in some areas. The road texture with the mud on the sides for example, really doesn't merge well with the textures alongside it and they should have changed that at least (even by making the terrain a disp. surf. and making it overlap the road or something would have helped). The internal brushwork is really pretty simplistic but it doesn't really look bad as such, just far from breathtaking and a little too boxy.
Well, I'm kinda glad for a small map to be honest, should be fun over our LAN.
-
Add watermellons, and an a crowbar cause I thought it was HL2DM.
-
remake nuke instead of those suxor maps :\
-
yuck, that looks pretty bad
-
Looks like a new assaultish map, not that bad imho, looks pretty realistic and if it plays well with a good framerate I'm happy with it.
(de_dust 2 has some places where the +showbudget goes to the roof and I have to look at the floor there)
It is a boring theme for a map though.
A train track passing by might have been nice to fluf it up a bit, after all its a industrial zone looking at the surrounding buildings.

This is Dave Rillers map, same guy who remade de_tides. Definately a difference in quality between the two maps.
-
I was dissapointed when I saw de_tides, but this new map is really the buttom...
Naw, thoose maps are not made by the same person. De_tides is a TurtleRock Studios map while Dave Riller is employed at Valve. It would also have been quite unrealistic if one guy churned out maps this fast.
I think the lower quality is a result of that Dave is employed as "Game Designer" and not "Level Designer". He is also the author of datacore, so he should have enough experience.
-
who cares....all that matters is how it plays
tides is a great looking map....but i couldnt stand playing it for more than 10 rounds
-
Remember that it's not finished, it's supposed to be released during february.
-
every time valve has released screens of a css map
thats what it looked like when it came out
its just nooblish
-
I would have expected more original content, instead of recycled HL2/CS:S material, but if the gameplay is special then I certainly won't mind.
Edit: OK, maybe I was a little too lenient. I'd expect MUCH better from Dave Riller, one of Valve's veteran mappers who's been around since the beginning of Half-Life 1.
-
Let's see when it's finished.
-
I hope it turns out to be a fun map, I don't care much visually though... something can look like a million bucks, but play like crap.
-
I knew it! I knew it. Valve used history books and TurtleRock studios used google to make the map. I knew it, i saw it.

what
-
Yeah, because old victorian wooden framed buildings really do only exist in google image searches, and Tides really is undeniably ripping off said buildings
