Finally got in after a few hours of off and on trying. Pretty much exactly the same as the last beta - no new content unlocked, and only very small changes. I do think the server issues are going to bite them in the ass. I don't mind having to connect, the problem is when it doesn't let me connect. But they already have my money, so the joke's on me, I guess.

Is the game still retardedly easy?

FFS. I checked yesterday to see if I had a key and there was nothing. Checking my emails again today and there's a key sitting there which had arrived after I checked. God damn I wanted to play and the beta has already ended

Dunno - it does seem that random disasters are back, which might add a little challenge - I got a tornado, and I heard of a zombie invasion. I think filling out a city with low density buildings is pretty easy, but that's always been pretty easy in the series. That's kind of been the secret - expand while completely neglecting social services until you have a large enough tax base to do whatever the hell you want. I remember my cities always ran out of money when I started playing SimCity 4, but then I realized that people would keep moving in as long as there were jobs, no matter what a hell hole it was. Public services are more of an option. And in the game!
I think the fun will be more roaming around the city and just watching the little sims live their lives, something that's never really been there in the previous installments, and the challenge from specializing the city.

EA holding a SimCity stream for a week now, and the internet votes what to do next : http://letsallbemayor.com/en/event/disaster-city
Still not sure about this, and the area you got to build on feels small as hell compared to Sim City 4.
-
Bah, wont be out until Friday in Europe.
Not that it matters, since EA's servers will likely be completely fucked once they unlock it.

Is this gonna be Origin only?
-
Yep! Probably gonna get it anyway. Want to build my shitty!
-
If only it was just Origin, you also have to log into the SimCity servers to actually play. Those are totally gonna able to take the pressure when it launches

-
A quick way for EA to learn (again) that when this shit is pulled people who would normally pay for a game will pirate it because the crack is easier to use than their servers. /sigh
-
Just bought it on amazon, they are giving a $20 gift card as well (much better than Origin's deal
) -
seeing more and more reviews, don't think im going to get it till it hits like £20
-
As much as I want to play this, it will have to wait until after sc2

Been watching some review videos of this and the small size of the cities is really putting me off. While I don't expect the cities to be as infinitely big as is possible with the relatively basic 2D graphics of old, they really are very small this time around. The more in-depth simulation and such is great, but when the city is more like the size of a small town it's hard to take it seriously.
At least you can have multiple cities in one region, but that's not the same as one big cohesive city with nice suburbs, proper spitting up of sectors, etc. The size of the cities right now pretty much requires that you squish everything into a big, unattractive mess; if you want distinct zones with their own look and feel you have to split them up into separate cities.
I read somewhere that the size is so small due to the way the online stuff works, and that it could be increased later. I'm not sure why this would be the case but I hope so, I will definitely buy it when they do this. Wouldn't surprise me if this comes via DLC regions with bigger city plots, though.
-
The citysizes won't increase until the powerhouses we have today (highperfomance gaming rigs) are mainstream, i.e. even your dad has one ( source ) ... which is a stupid decision. Why not just let people decide for themselves what size they want for their city? Someone with an average rig could pick something small, while another with a gaming computer that can run onehundred instances of Crysis and Dwarf Fortress at once can pick a gigantic city size. And when they allow larger cities, it will without a shadow of a doubt be paid DLC. Plus reviewers are pointing out that the game has seemingly intentional limitations, a telltale for future paid DLCs.

Yeah I'm going to hold off buying this. Pretty much for the reasons Thrik said.
It just looks stupid having industry so close to commercial sky scrapers and picturesque suburbs just over a highway from it all. I guess if you put commercial in it's own zone and residential in another you could kind of make a large "city" with proper zoning. But then you don't really have to manage the pollution and stuff since it's all contained in it's own zone.
Fail.

All the while reading your post, Zyn, I looked for a dislike button

They seriously need to stop that shit. I was looking forward to this game, but this combined with other people's impressions is really making me think twice. Guess I won't be buying anything off EA anymore too.
