    Interesting long article

Video game developers receive such a rich assortment of incentives that even oil companies have questioned why the government should subsidize such a mature and profitable industry whose main contribution is to create amusing and sometimes antisocial entertainment.

The oil industry can suck my cock. What is their contribution to the world? Pollution and war. We aren't saving lives here but we are making the world a happier place at least!

Subsidies are one thing imho. Tax breaks another.

I hate the former slightly more then the latter. The Game Industry doesn't need this crap, which is why I go apeshit whenever the Canadian government sponsors some new Ubisoft-studio

The nightmare scenario is the film industry in Sweden. It's an inbred circus where everyone needs to go to the state film dept. and beg for funding to be able to make their next shitty film.

Ironically, nearly every product we use in the modern world is made with petroleum. Which is why we're so fucked in 20 years lol.

Maybe Woody Harrelson was right, we gotta start using hemp to build airplanes n shit

i wouldnt be so sure about that ! i know this is kinda going into a parallel universe/quantum physics/mindfuck direction but bare with me here:

imagine every-time a human starts a video game. in a parallel universe that person goes outside instead

... the amount of fatal car accidents and shit we have prevent ... it must be in the millions ...

including the plastics used in our console/computers and dvd/blu-ray discs! The oil industry shouldn't be complaining.

there's enough oil to last us at least 100 more years so I wouldn't worry.

If they're getting all this help, why are there still all these waves of layoffs and poor working conditions?

because there's still the same amount of consumers? You'd have to subsidize one hella lot to stop companies going bust for the endless of other reasons.

Because there are too many inexperienced and immature people promoted to key positions?

Because the tax breaks and subsidies don't allow them to do business, they allow them to make more profit..a standard of performance which the shareholders expect them to beat next quarter. No matter how much money you make or what your margin is the shareholder always expects it to be better next time.
