In light of creating a whole bunch of models and textures to fit a Romanesque theme, I was wondering how some of you guys approach the creation of texture sets. Really, I'd like to find out a bit of info on how textures in a set can be created to complement each other in terms of style, colour scheme, etc.

    Trial and error.

One thing you can do is try to use the same base for all your textures, this way they will all look a bit similar.

It's always a balance between keeping the texture style and palette similar enough, while not making them too similar and boring.

Something I seem to do quite often is to try and break down a palette early on where I have some strong base colors that I can continue to use throughout the set. That doesn't mean all other colors outside that palette are forbidden though (important )
