No options to assign equipment/spells to 1-9 keys, afaik, either.

You can! Once your favourites menu is up you can assign stuff to 1-9 by simply pressing the corresponding key when the item is highlighted.

One other thing I'm really disappointed about with Skyrim, is the fact that the only way to know where to go is to follow your quest marker. I turned off the compass and quest markers because I wanted a really immersive game and wanted to ask people for directions whenever I wanted to find someone/something. Morrowind did this, why can't it be in Skyrim?

Also, there is no way to pull a 'dialogue history' with characters. One guy wanted me to fetch him some Argonian Ale, and when I went back to ask him where it was, he just said 'got that ale yet?' and I was completely clueless as to where to go. I opened up the journal, expecting there to be a 'history' feature there, but it's really vague and simple.

Game looks really ugly to me and runs absolutely terrible on ultra with everything enabled. And god damn the menus are a joke.

ooookay so i explored a bunch more, found some really nice looking areas, individual assets are still pretty poor but the overall ambience is sweet. also getting further into some skill trees and getting a feel for the kind of class i want to play. the favourites system is actually very well thought out; i personally wield an enchanted-as-fuck 1 handed weapon, and use my left hand for fire/frost damage spells - healing when i am low - and a magical shield. it's really quick and easy to just jump between things - and you could even put other things in there, maybe a real shield when low on magic, or another 1 handed weapon. it feels pretty badass to leap around with a pocket full of butterflies and putting up forcefields between myself and bosses all the while raining fire upon them like some deranged angel of mercy.

can someone explain to me (as somebody who never played morrowind) why everybody is losing their shit over a lack of spears, and not being able to dual-wield shields?

You probably already know this but just in case, if it's an assigned quest, just make it active from your journal and the area you need to go to will show up on your map/compass. I haven't found any dialogue history though either... Maybe if you have captions on? But I doubt it.

I spent about 40 minutes or so last night walking in a small blizzard (at night) back to Whiterun just thinking how awesome it was and how close it feels to actually walking through the forest in the snow. That 40 minutes was a better, more immersive experience than the 8 hours I've played of RAGE. Say what you want about the visuals, I find it hard to see how someone doesn't get sucked into this game, aside from hating this type of gameplay from the start.

EDIT: Wowsers... 274,318 currently playing it according to steam

Yup I like medium armor and spacers would be cool, maybe expansion or mods

Alright i see what you mean with the menus !! it's not so bad for me in term of navigation; but i really miss all the little illustrations for each objects they had in oblivion

And the skill menu with the constellations gives me epilepsy

edit : and everything seems overly simplified, even after oblivion !!! i mean, you gain a level, choose between health magic and stamina .. bah ... we are far from baldur's gate

i played baldurs gate recently. the further away from that we get the better. choice for the sake of choice, confusing, ill-explained, minor variations in stats and yet 50 million pages of menus to read through when you start the game. dunno about you but i have shit to do, i don't need to spend half my game time trying to understand what some fat neckbeard (irony) has hidden away in riddles that only make sense to him and his mom.

The game is good overall especially the dungeons which are much well made, but i mean, it's seems you are some jack of all trades who can either fight and do magics. Maybe it's just a first impression.

In the end you have to specialize tho if you want to become really good at something. If i read correctly there are around 200 perks but you can only use 75 max (if you actualy level up that high).

I'm playing a thief/assassin so i specialize in lockpicking, pickpocketing, sneaking, light armor and one handed. Not going to max out all of these tho. So i will spend the rest on enchanting (because it's always fun in TES games to catch mighty souls and create powerfull items/weapons with them). Not long and i will be a silent killer who stabs his enemies with a dagger straight out of hell

Thing is though, it's one of the most immersive and atmospheric games I've played in ages. Everything contributes, including the sound and music which is really great! Feels like a huge world and I actually want to play it more and explore. I honestly don't think it's an ugly game, have I got some super awesome graphics setting enable that you guys forgot to tick in the menu?
