In the Elder Scrolls "Novels" that have come out since Oblivion they've totally fucked up most of Tamriel, including wiping Morrowind and Black Marsh off the map. If they keep that tone going with the game than maybe this could be interesting, but the whole "direct sequel to Oblivion" thing has me worried, since Oblivion's plot was stupid, and the game contradicted the series lore about how Cyrodil was supposed to be. It was supposed to be a cool roman jungle sort of deal, gigantic, full of old ruins and shimmering golden cities. Instead it was generic fantasy place.
At least the setting of Skyrim has promise to avoid one of Oblivion's biggest faults, of making the world look small by having it all visible. With Morrowind, even with distant lands from mods, the world looks gigantic because of the big mountain in the middle cutting off your view.
I hope it's better balanced this time. Also happy about the setting. Solstheim was my favourite part of Morrowind.
Aye, even though Oblivion and Morrowind (the only games of the series that I've really played) definitely weren't perfect games, then they provide a feeling of exploration and immersion that is very unique. Can't wait to see what this is gonna be like, especially if they've got themselves a new engine ![]()
Oh and it's coming out on my birthday, weeeee! ![]()
Jaw drop
Deus Ex and Elder Scrolls???
Damn 2012 can be the worlds end and all... but 2011 will be a good way to say goodbye!
Who wants to ear some bad news now?
Still gamebryo! ![]()

IGN seems to think that Bethesda has built their own in-house engine for Skyrim. I've got the impression they're confused by references to "The fallout 3 engine" lol
fix the animation system and polish some of the renderer and it'll be kick ass
although i have a feeling the scale of these games is what causes rushed art in many places so will better techonology solve it ![]()
Yea i don't think the engine ever has been the problem. The games are just fucking huge and complex and Bethesda doesn't put the main focus on art.
Gamebryo definitely has issues, foremost being that it no longer has a developer of its own. It's practically abandonware ![]()

QuoteSeeing lots of speculation about #tesv game engine. It's brand new... and it's spectacular!

Let's freaking hope so. They need one badly.
Oblivions engine was fantastical for its day and blew everything out of the water, and still looks quite nice in places. So this should be equally awesome.

Or maybe they are using IDTech5? ![]()

Na. ![]()
But it's sure, it's a new engine :
By that they probably mean the renderer.
