I was thinking the same thing.

really? they're not ...state of the art, but they still look decent enough to me. especially considering how oblivion looked. What bothers me is the lack of real combat feedback, it's like the player is attacking a piece of metal sometimes. I also don't like that the player just stands there soaking up damage as if it's morrowind all over again. maybe i've been playing too much demon's souls lately.

what is so bad, specifically, that it warrants "worst animated game 2011"?

I never played any TES games, but I feel like playing more games that takes some time to complete. But looking at those videos I've no idea what to think, I mean...it looks super horrible. But the same goes for Fallout I guess, but it becomes so much more obvious when playing with melee weapons.

So people who like these games...does it look good compared to previous games, given it's 2011?

Can you have a dragon as an ally in these games btw?

Bit late my reply but since the game isn't out yet it shouldn't be too late. I think you have missed out big time by not playing the earlier TES games, especialy Morrowind.

It's true that the TES and Fallout games don't look like the best thing ever on the surface but you have to be aware of just how big they are. They can suck you in for over 100 hours easily and then you've seen maybe 50% of it, not even counting the stuff that would be different on a second playthrough with different choices. When i played Fallout 3 i often thought "lol this looks bad" but at the same time i was in constant awe at how much work they put in it regardless. The sheer complexity of it is insane from a game design perspective.

To me once i get immersed in a game gfx, animations etc. all become secondary. I know that Skyrim will probably do this for me like its predecessors so i don't really care too much how it looks now. Really looking forward to it. I just hope the leveling isn't broken like it was in vanilla Oblivion.

    lmao!

Meanwhile, I get what people are saying about the animations not being state of the art. They've definitely improved since Oblivion, but you have to think about RPGs a little differently than say shooter or big time action games like GTA or Red Dead or even Uncharted. In those games the feel is all about in the moment of the action / narrative. In RPGs it shifts just slightly towards "my character's stats and loot." That's not a justification for somewhat less awesome animations, it's just that real nerdcore RPG fans (and I admit there is some of that in me) are in bit of a different mindset when playing a game like Elder Scrolls or Fallout compared to zipping through the single player campaign of Call of Duty or Battlefield.

At least that's one way of thinking about it. Buf shit, if RPGs just aint your thing then you probably won't like Skyrim.

I would really like to get the art book and making of DVD that comes in the collectors edition but $150 for those two things and a plastic dragon (which I don't care for) ain't worth it.

Even so, this movie's ganna be good!

That Sounds of Skyrim video kinda throws out as an aside that the guy who was lead on the Dark brotherhood quest in Oblivion, and a veteran of working on the Thief games, is a Senior Designer for Skyrim. I'm excited for this game again

That's good to know. Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild quests in Oblivion were some of the best gaming experiences that i had in my life.

I would imagine this happened because of the early review copies they sent out? Is there any reason publishers don't wait until release to send reviewers copies of the game?

they build hype and expectation by getting reviews out early.

also it's very very rarely leaked by reviewers, they know better. it's much more commonly done by low paid employees at pressing or distribution plants.

Any of you guys listened to the soundtrack yet? It seems there are ten times the amount of tracks than in morrowind/oblivion, and a lot of the soundtrack uses little motifs from the two previous games.. It sounds incredible so far. Can only listen to a few leaked on youtube though

Pogo, I was just listening to it on Youtube. I'm ordering the collectors so I'll have the OST on a disc! (So far I own all the bethesda games as a collectors edition)

...which is why I'm getting the soundtrack when it's released properly because Elder Scrolls is one of my favourite series of games of ALL TIME...

I need to stop talking about Skyrim at work, I think Pontus is gonna end up stabbing me before the end of the day.
