and the first minute is one of the most rediculous (as in hilariously awesome) intros to a game I've ever seen.

Still waiting for Bulletstorm to unlock in Europe on Steam, which is in approx. 20 hours from now. They are still too afraid to let games unlock globally at the same time, in this digital age. And no chat in co-op is no problem as any bum can setup a Mumble-server for your friends to use for voice-communication when playing. About the FOV: with the ini editor, you might be able to adjust that, just like in Borderlands (considering it's pretty much the same engine). If the FOV is still locked down, there will be programs made to bypass it. I swear it will.

man I hate I don't pirate games... gah

I WANT to play this. But the content can't really motivate the price tag... 50% off and I'm running to the store!

Ignoring the pricetag, I had fun playing through it, and it looks great. There's so many scenic vistas, you got to take a deep breath every now and then. The part with Waggleton P. Tallylicker was a moment of "OH GOD THIS IS AWESOME" . However, the game didn't get much PC love, as the Field of View is locked to 85, and the framerate is capped to 62 FPS. It can be changed though with the Bulletstorm INI-file editor. One thing that did annoy me is the fact that you can't navigate the dropbox-menu with the mouse. Since DLCs are inevitable, as the menu for it is already there, we'll see what the future holds.

A tragedy. Take it back to the store.

Clearly a gamebreaker! The cap only concerns people with monster rigs and can't handle seeing a framerate under a three digit number

Bulletstorm has been leading the Steam Revenue Charts (Numberssold * Pricetag) for this whole week (while getting few to no preorders). I seriously hope that makes EA rethink their Steam policy. It sucks that they always push for Games for Windows Live or Gamespy instead of Steamworks and Securom or whatever for DRM and don't get the Preorders on Steam in time (Bulletstorm had less than a week of exposure there...).

Finished it earlier today, my second favorite game of the year so far. Absolutely loved how much fun it is when the game isn't taking itself serious in the faintest sense, and they just run with it. Great setpieces, the gameplay and skillshot stuff actually stays interesting throughout the entire game, some genuinely funny moments and strangely enough then I can't remember a game in ages where I liked the main character as much as I did in Bulletstorm. Very very pleasantly surprised by this one.

I generally don't like playing as some fratboy who uses the word "party" as a verb, but I liked the tongue-in-cheek story, scoring and general craziness of Vanquish, so maybe I should check this out.

If you liked Vanquish, you'll like Bulletstorm. The only difference is first person view ... and lots of numbers on screen ;P

    croos-post from polycount:

Don't know if I'll ever get around to post any indepth Stuff, but just discovered these two screenshots on the Unreal Site:

    [Blocked Image: http://www.unrealengine.com/files/features/Matinee_05.jpg]

    [Blocked Image: http://www.unrealengine.com/files/features/Matinee_04.jpg]

Although I didn't own these exact scenes it pretty much sums up the first 2/3 of my job on Bulletstorm Matinee and cinematic Characters stuff (lighting, synching etc)! The other 3rd was MoBu, Toiletdoorknobrepairing, video editing and some internal Tools writing.

I'm not with the company anymore so that's pretty much my art-dump. Would need to see if the cutscenes end up on Youtube sometime soon, would be awesome to share them.

Curiosity got the better of me and I had a go.

    Wow.

Bad port is bad. Where do I even start?

    - You cant alt tab. I know not everyone sees this as a problem, but I like to be able to alt tab a game for whatever reasons. This is the first game I've come across in a long time that just won't let me come back into the game. It's as if it's going "You dare to remove yourself from this fantabulous game for mere seconds?! No, you cannot come back in. I'm also going to wipe your key bindings for being such a shit.".

    - Mouse acceleration feels like it's on, I can't be doing with mouse accell.

    - Watched about 15 minutes of cut scenes before I even got to really do anything. What is it with games these days taking control away from the player so it can go "Oooh, look at me I'm big and fancy with my fancy cut scenes I'm so awesome!" As the games dialogue goes "fuck you cock suckers.".

    - The main characters voice, yeah, soon as he spoke I knew who it was. When you can identify the actor from one spoken word you need to wonder, isn't there anyone else?

    - They haven't made any effort in naming the keys. I was told to "Press and hold MouseTl2" What the fuck is mouseTl2?! I tried every mouse button but just ended up getting raped in that particular sequence because I wasn't sure which button it was. It wasn't mouse2 as that's my ironsights and this wasn't a situation to sit and find out as there was a huge helicpoter shooting seven shades of dick out of me.

    - This has terrible character dialogue. Jesus christ Epic, I know you guys have an art budget as you keep waving it in my face like a giant erection. So how about you spend a little money on some writers as well? I know it's just a silly shooty game but if you're going to force me to witness a cut scene with people talking every 10 seconds at least make it bearable!

    - Let me skip the stupid intros! I don't want to sit there every time watching these stupid logos. Once is enough.

    - You can't edit the ini files. What a load of shit.

    - Is windows live in this? I forget. It probably is, so fuck it.

    + Looks pretty.

+ Kinda fun when it lets you play.

    + Loads stupidly fast.

    + Great sound.

    + Quite satisfying.

You can edit the INI-files but only with an editor, as they're obfuscated. And yeah, GFWL should go burn in the deepest fiery pits of hell and be tormented for eternity.

well, you have microsoft/sony to thank for that. it is a TRC that the screen cannot be blank, unresponsive for longer than 10 seconds or so. the unskippable intro videos are used to give the game menus time to load in. otherwise you could skip the videos and sit watching a blank screen or a loading screen for the exact same amount of time as you'd be watching shitty intro videos. so they figure just keep them unskippable and load it in the background.

so, that's why. the increased complexity of starting menus, the requirement to avoid screen-hangs, and a general hatred of the customer.

that's very imformative, it actually explains why civ 5 takes ages to load and the intro is unskippable (even if you do skip it by setting the ini file, you'll still have a black screen until the menu loads)

I just learnt something. Thanks rick.

I've been playing this some more and its actually improved over earlier chapters. I actually laughed a few times at some of the stuff said. Either the writers started drinking and smoking or they got some new ones.

Played it for a couple of days on the 360, story is just lol....

Skillshots system I did enjoy at the start of the game - it's presented like some kind of mini achievement list and whenever you perform a skillshot it completes that skillshot in the list. Although later in the game the list is huge and I am like woaaaa so many things which one am I gonna focus on etc.

I do enjoy the panoramic views. Environment and atmosphere seems quite nice

I would say the game is well-worth a buy. It breathes some fresh air into the stale FPS genre with the skill kills, over-the-top action, and absurdly hilarious dialog.
