Vilham, I live with one of gameplay coders. Save&Load is the most complex and bitch thing you can deal with in a video-game. It's sounds easy as fuck, all you need to do is save the current state of the game and the load it like it was... Right? WRONG. I think I'd risk it to say that half the bugs in games are caused from save&load problems. It's complex, and it's hard to implement and it generates a lot of problems.

Yes I understand that, Frontier had lots of problems but far more of the time was spent deciding what was worth saving or not in an open world game, than actually implementing it.

If frontier can pull it off in an open world game and Crytek can pull it off in Crysis I don't understand how a larger and better funded studio can't in a linear game. Obviously it takes time and effort, but I find it hard to believe that Crysis 2 is so significantly different to Crysis 1 that you cant retrofit that in.

It just doesn't make sense to me that it was a technical decision and not a design one. Which as I said, is fine, its your game. But don't complain at backlash your fans might give you. Do you guys remember the back lash MW2 got for removing tons of features? This is nothing compared to that so don't get quite so defensive about it (I understand you spent several years working on this but I don't think anyone is attempting to make personal attacks). But if that's what you say, k. Ill leave it at that.

And don't get me wrong, I respect the fact that you guys can finish a game on time and within budget.

It definitely was a technical decision. In other words, Crytek preferred to use the available coders to work on other things far more important to the overall quality of the game.

you can have a quick save system but then weird things can start happening and it can interfere with AI. pretty obvious why the game autosaves where there's no combat going on when you think about it.

I really can't believe people are actually mad about quicksaving, it seems like a case of just looking for stuff to be mad about.

The thing with quicksaving is convenience. Say I wanted to stop at a certain point and go do something else (Which I wanted to do many a time but couldn't). Why should I be forced to keep playing towards a checkpoint? I was caught out by this about 4 times thinking I had gone through a checkpoint but hadn't. My own stupidity? Perhaps. But that doesn't dismiss the usefulness of having a quick save function. It certainly isn't something to complain massively about, though.

And heh, mentioning the AI getting interfered with by a quick save? It's bad enough as it is I don't think a quick save would have made much of a difference to it

Truthfully it took me quite a while to find an appropriate one. Everyone assumes its because I always josh about pissing myself when laughing. This isn't the case at all.

Its a fair representation of knowledge being passed on to your peers one drop at a time. I have been helping mappers better themselves for almost a decade now. There are a few here whom can attest to the depth I will go to assist someone with their mapping. Of course, the return help is many fold more in return. These same mappers helped me reach beyond what I could have done without them.

Most of them are very private people, but maybe they will tell you sometime.

I am always grateful they were there.

I stopped and admired that debris pile too Mino .

It has definitely got better, I've got some of the suit upgrades which prevent such quick death while messing around in combat.
