    Name: Dm-Grand-Diablo

    Version: final

    Compatibility: DeathMatch,TeamDeathMatch,Duel

Description: i am not good with story so if somebody wants to fill in fantasy stuff be my guest

Comments: the map is based on the phenomenal concept art by marc simoneti ( http://%7boption%7d ) that won him the the blizzard art contest i tried to contact him and ask for permission to do a 3d interpretation of his painting but i couldn't get a hold of him which is kind of worrying considering that he does freelance work and getting a hold of him needs to be REALLY REALLY easy. i hope he or one of his mates will see this and tell him to get in touch with me ^^ what else can i say ... its a 100% custom map. for the first time ever i want to do an extended beta release phase for my custom maps before i release a final and get as much user input into the map as possible.

i decided to stick with the strong golden pointlights for the fire as koko suggested but i went back to my old sun color and strength ( only slightly tweaked) because i couldn't life without the sun shadows on the grounds. any criticism and suggestions are only for future project ( but definitely welcome) because this one is final and will not be changed anymore. some one here on the core suggested i should try to get a hold of marc simmoneti via linkdin and had a link to a profile ready it turns out it was in fact him ... so he is defnitly alive and well but still a tough sob to get in touch with

he accepted my friend /connection add request but he didn't bother to respond to my messages about the map i am assuming if he hated it and wanted me to stop making this he would have said so.

EDIT: played it, I don´t like it gameplaywise, but visials are in-game better than on your pictures

Yeah the over the top blue lights could be toned down a bit, but the map manages to give life to an entire world on its own, and that's an achievement alright

Still doesn't work for me but I found a working mirror here:

    http://www.utzone.de/include.php?path=c ... entid=7316

Really awesome theme...I can tell you love to make city maps like you did with de_wanda. It's a nice change of pace from the typical cliche deathmatch style so many people (like myself) fall back on. I only played with bots for a little while but the gameplay seemed fine. Obviously gameplay isn't the main focus on a map like this but it's nice to see that it plays well enough.

    Couple of really minor nitpicks:

    - Texture scaling was kind of inconsistent...I'd see a nice sharp ground texture for example and then a blurry, scaled down wall texture. Kind of minor and tough to avoid in some places but it still bugs me a little bit.

    - The burning building fire FX looked a bit funny up close.

    - Weird texture warping on some ascending spiral roads and ramps. Again, that's really a small nitpick because it's such a bastard to unwrap/map stuff like that and have it be perfect but it looked a little weird.

    - Stuff popping in and out. I think this is an engine thing but there were a few spots where I could see prominent props go back and forth from visible to invisible.

    Overall:

Kick ass map with great style, unique theme, and impressive scale. Warby owns. Hessi owns. That's all.
