Very awesome, but it's a shame Valve have caught the CG bug

If you mean pre-rendered CG, no, it is not. It's in-game (Source) + added post processing. Just like TF2 "Meet the..." videos.

Yep, they started doing this with DOD Source. Tbh i think valve has been planning to do more narrative character stories. Thus explaining tf2 having colourful characters and glados :]

I've seen the trailers and some of the reviews but I havnt been a complete nerd and hunted down every last scrap of info. All I see is a zombie co-op game where the zombies can...run!

Edit: Not that I play TF2 much either but due to L4D no more TF2 updates till next year

Its 4vs4 where players can control the 4 survivors and 4 of the 5 special infected (when doing it multiplay)

They think griefers will be happy to play as one of the infected, altough I think a griefer would just join the survivors and shoot his team

Seems Germany still gets a good version: valve cut the exploding heads and limb-shot-offs but hired German Dr. House/Luthor Sen. Synchron-actor and it sure sounds awesome in the trailer (Bill, the Vietnam-Vet. fits perfectly into the Dr. House scheme )

Hm.. that would be the first time for me actually playing something with german syncro! (except some unavoidable console games)

    Dr. House syncro rocks0rz!

Christ that intro sequence is very impressive if it's all done in-game, wonder how long it took to set that up.

I used to love zombies, but now they're just overused and boring. Not interested at all I'm afraid.

good gameplay is good gameplay, no matter what elements you use in order to achieve it. i think l4d might actually surprise you!!

Looked like a render with in game assets.

Quite the opposite, this was done in Source, using non game assets, just like the TF2 movies.

Either way it's sweet :> these do look quite considerably better than the tf2 movies though. Art style difference taken into account.

actually - it's all ingame assets, just extra animations and unlimited source-version which would certainly not run on any machine atm

It doesn't have to run on anything realtime- Source recorder renders individual frames to match a framerate non-realtime. They can set up the scene, script the events, and then have everything play out in engine and output it as a billion .tga files, encode them into a video, and throw it on steam. You can do all of this with the public version of steam. Only tool Valve's holding back is their cinematic physics thing- what they used on the fire escape at the end. That's because it's a commercial licensed thing from some third party, and they aren't allowed to distribute it.
