Say what you want about this game's map design, but the more I watch gameplay the more I feel like I need to play it NOW. The teleportation system looks pretty sick, you can kind of save your push progress without backtracking. Also, the abilities don't look all bad, from what I have heard they are all utilities. You can't really have most of them in CS because the game is fantastical. The only dreaded feeling I think a lot of us got was the lack of sdk or basic editor in a game with such simple maps and stylized art. The game will be a time sinkhole where the only way to really get involved in the community will be becoming pro versus being able to make cool maps.

I think this is unfair because all of those games need a dedicated team to produce a map that is up to par. Also COD has a minute pc community. A lot of games with small levels or managably sized levels have some degree of modding

Also with billions in revenue, I don't think a few big projects are keeping valve from fixing up their cash cow properly. Laziness of valve not their employees.

He actually took a break from his original "in character" youtube to level design on a whim. I get it, and a lot of the stuff he describes level design as is relatable. He has a passion for it. I think the clout he had helped him get noticed by sledgehammer games, but he designed some really good maps

This one was a real puzzler. The rest of the game looks pretty solid, but with the maps they currently have, it seems like they need the community to create for them. The community is special in that they avoid the "corporate ladder" and approval process, so everything goes. The maps can be wild and adventurous with nothing on the line.

Recently I was trying to make some physics destruction in blender, but most of the tools like cell fracture are sort of legacy. Does anyone know of methods or addons to create DESTRUCTION? All the other physics are pretty incredible, mantaflow is da beast!

Exactly you need to shove it down their throat overpass style. They'll get it eventually...

However, whether you like it or not, graphics are integral to a map's success.

YES. Like something where you plant the bomb at least half the time with balanced teams. What even is the current map pool LOL

@fewseb I was going to make an argument that the long que was due to the maps being in scrimmage, but then I checked my csgo. Anubis, now moved to "competitive maps", has a significantly shorter que time. Better than 3 active duty maps in fact. It seems that valve has given this map some limelight and it has spoken for itself. However, with the way valve has operated, and coming back to my original point, the map will probably be cycled out like workout and such. They need to make it active duty; its outperforming vertigo, train, and nuke in que time. If only they gave all maps this chance, moving to the map pool based on performance, the active pool would be dialed in with awesome maps.

Aren't most of the maps at least a decade old? I don't know what kind of beating around the bush you guys are doing, but csgo makes $200m+ a year and even managed to get away with putting their own horrible map in the game. There is no excuse for them not to introduce fresh maps. Half the map updates they just made were corrections to fix player model visibility. The most memorable updates in recent history have been cosmetic additions.

Insurgency. Yes a while ago, but I still play regularly in full servers. Also damn good maps.

IIRC bohemia interactive had a huge modding contest too, giving out like half a milly

It is easy (and also correct) to chalk up valve as being lazy.

Wow I really started something. I didn't communicate well that I was vindictive of valve for never changing active duty. Well, unless its one of their stinking maps

Edit: why does everyone always botch my simple arguments by tacking on some strange anti-mapcore manifesto

@NikiOo There is a lot to respond to, and you have some good points. What I will part with is that I am entirely sure there are non-clover maps that could be created and widely accepted by the community. No, not as a novelty or something built for the hell of it, but for different and cohesive gameplay. I thought Junction was a really well done alternative layout, much better than nuke which I have played MANY games of. Valve is the culprit?

@Serialmapper I agree. In my opinion, playing maps with similar design and different nuances will get boring eventually. The movement patterns are the same, and the same areas are connected to each other.

That's a good point. It is also sad, because they are much more interesting than what does survive today, and they obviously work.
