  • Looking to download Gears of War based UE editor for map modding

    Hey MapCore community!

I've been on long hiatus from mapping due to work and other various responsibilities and I need to polish up some portfolio pieces and make new ones.

With the new Gears of War coming out, the game sparked my want to make something with Unreal Editor. I want to make a map for Gears but don't have the tools, could someone help a lad out and send me in the right direction?

    Thanks!

Great work! This reminds me of the game Child of Light, really like it so far! Could use some atmospheric music though to help set the mood but like you said its a prototype.

    1. The 2 screenshots in tormented souls looks extremely dark. I can barely see anything. Needs some ambient light or general lighting improvement.
    2. A bunch of those games look interesting. It would be great if I could see some youtube videos of the gameplay :)

Now the next one is highly subjective and my opinion so take it with a grain of salt.

I would change "Personal Projects" to "Level Design" if the content is going to be all level design. If you have other types of projects in the future you can make a new section for them.

I would also put game jams and student projects into one section called "Games" then order them by which project you are the most proud of. As an example on my site I mix all my AAA, indie and game jam projects in the same section but I order the AAA and published games first.

I'm not sure if this is actually considered good design but I based it off the following :

    1. When visiting a portfolio site, too many sections can be mildly confusing. A problem that is exaserbated if I'm in charge of hiring and have to look at many portfolio sites in a single sitting. If I see 2 sections called "Level Design" and "Games" then it's very clear.
    2. I don't like clicking around a lot, especially if I'm on a tablet. So I try to minimize the number of sections you have to jump around to.

Now that you pointed this out, I can see what's flawed organization and design wise, I'll most definitely will do all the changes you think should be done, and making it easier to navigate and read will be something i'll keep in mind when improving it. Thank you! :D

Very down in the dumps as of recently, I have no job as though i'm searching for anything to fill that void and i'm building my portfolio and resume to become a better level designer so i can find a position as a level designer in the future. Every day I feel i'm not putting enough effort in as a level designer as my parents say I don't put enough effort in as a level designer and want me to find a part time job so i can pay off my debts. Its very hard, every day I dream about becoming a level designer but I feel like i'm one step further from becoming a good designer. I lost my girlfriend because she thinks I won't find a sustainable job and she thinks i'm good for nothing, and every day i hope everything will get better but I just end up hoping for nothing. I don't expect any pity. I deserve it, whether or not i truly do or not but i hope things get better from here, I want to work for a triple A company and make a living for myself so i can make my parents proud, but deep down I want to make myself proud. Knowing i went from a gameplay programmer as i studied in school and learned to create and understand maps as a level designer. For anyone who listened and felt no empathy, thanks for listening, hopefully i only improve from here.

Yea I felt that way too, especially T spawn and A site, i'll definitely look at some official maps to try and better the indoor parts of my map.

Hi everyone, I'm looking to apply for a Level Designer or Game Designer position at a triple A company and want to make sure my resume and portfolio stand out and catches the attention of employers.

All advice on things I should change or things that bother you, please let me know so I can try to make it better.

Hi everyone! This is my first post on MapCore and thank you to the kind community for helping me figure out how to make this post! After graduating from college for game development, I quickly fell in love for level design and wanted to pursue it as a hobby and hopefully turn it into a career! That being said, this is my first time making a CS:GO map and my first time using source development kit!

The map I created is set to be a mix on both CS:GO's maps, cs_office and de_nuke. Set in the middle of construction, players fight for map dominance in a construction yard between an office building and nuclear material distribution facility. What I aimed for with Establish was to allow different forms of playstyles to perform equally as well, like shotgun and sub machine guns, and still meet the assault rifle/AWP standard. The map was made strictly as a defusal map, but after some playtesting and some advice from friends, I want to make the map versatile for Arms Race and Deathmatch map.

All constructive advice and criticism is very helpful, and will be considered as I want to make this map better! Thank you everyone for downloading!

Here's a link to steam community workshop for the map!
