Have you tried running it with the igpu?

So it's up for pre-order on steam.

First AAA game I see at 50€ on launch.

I always thought unfair we have to pay the same price at launch than for consoles, since there are less producing costs regarding the disk production.

@Sprony you guys journalists can test drive it already? :)

That can't be true otherwise I've lost faith in Valve. That makes absolutely no sense not to reset recoil on reload. It's basically ignoring the cause of recoil :(

The reason the docs are so low on this stuff is because it gives you most of the things you need already, for example in unity a widely versatile Default PBR shader, dof shaders etc, all with simple controls, it allows you to focus on making the game instead of fiddling around all the time.

If you look into it there are a lot of aggressive optimization techniques for both engines that won't cause much stress setting up, and both engines already deal with optimization to some extent to start with.

They lack some optimization on memory management and draw calls management, which were added on dx12/Vulkan. Unless I missed that in the documentation of UE4 which I'd extensive on everything but that :/

Aren't there guys from epic here?

and ue4/unity is a no brainer unless you wanna lose all your hair by writing an engine from scratch.

but if low level graphics programming is your thing then go for it.

I have plenty hair to lose, won't have to get my hair cut, budget cut. Thanks!

Issue with ue4/unity is that everything rendering wise is already almost entirely written. Or at least it seems like it is. I'm curious about how to optimize things, so I kinda need to do it myself.

But you're wrong and right about the graphics. It is possible to get stunning graphics (Doom is a great example of that). But you're right I'll most probably won't achieve that alone.

    Hi there,

I want to start programming a real game, with stunning graphics. I'm wondering if I should try and do it in UE4/ unity, or if I should do it from scratch usingDX12 or Vulkan APIs?

I ask because dx12 and Vulkan support in UE4 aren't well documented at all, or are nowhere to be seen for desktop, and it feels like ue4 is meant to be used for dx11/openGL games. For now Vulkan support is limited to mobile on UE4 as they present it, and last time I checked Unity doesn't support it yet. Neither does unity fully support dx12 it seems. Any of you guys veterans of awesome gaming have any advice?

@shawnolson, that's good news :) You take feedback into account and that's probably the only way UX can improve in a software.

By the way thanks for wall worm, it's awesome from the few things I played with in it so far.

However, the issue with it may be the setup part. It's the part where you have to install everything do prop models appear correctly as well as textures and so on. It did put me a bit at the beginning. That's a part of the UX which is often overlooked in my opinion.

Unity has some issues with that when you want someone to access and retake the project. While it should've been really easy, I had to explain for 5 to 10 min the logic behind how it's done and why it's done like that, which isn't good for newbies wanting to learn the tool.

So if I could describe my perfect customer, it's probably the random guy, from 28 - 45 years or something like that, who like good quality furnitures, who wants something special in his home, but still doesn't have the money or want to pay a carpenter for that. You see a lot of people like that, instead of going to Ikea they go to some furnitures shop where they know they will find something different and that is not crap in terms of quality, they still buy it in flat packages and all, but it's still better in terms of quality.

Another trend is the people who likes to differentiate themselves, I mean Ikea furnitures are nice and all, but everybody got the same furniture now, and some people don't like that, and with my system, they can now say "Hey look, I designed it by myself, I've choose the colors and the dimensions by myself, you won't find this piece of furniture anywhere else". People don't like when they have the same thing than their neighbors, they always want the most unique car, phone or whatever, they want to stand out in a good way, that's dumb I know, but it's how it works, better take advantage of that.

You could cater to cs go players. You know the guys that need a really really strong desk ;)

More seriously, very rich people could buy your stuff. Not directly of course, but they'll hire someone to model their home since they can afford it. Please those professionals and you can expect to sell at premium because those guys won't matter, they're not the one actually paying, and the one paying don't care :)

Valve isn't taking care of the game enough to make it obvious they want it to last.

That and mostly, Source 2 update will most probably mean a different feel for the gameplay, different movements, slightly different corner peaks, hit boxes maybe, making it different enough for pro players as well as normal player to complaint. Hence they'll want to release a new game to see if it catches on.

That's my theory. I hope I'm wrong, I really do. Maybe the fact they are porting the ui from what it is to the same framework as Dota 2 has could indicate a future port.

On the other hand, people like Tim Sweeney (he should be know on Mapcore I guess, since he's the founder of epic games, or so I've understood) are predicting an offense from Microsoft against steam to gain the place steam has right now. (I'll fetch you a link if you want the details, I saw an article about that recently) if that's true, that means valve has more important things to do, and therefore won't port it

No no, but dissapointing stuffs like the r8 debacle, updates Making run and gun even more viable etc. Those are dissapointing and they did them all in the past.

Edit: source 2 is dissapointing since it'll probably never come to cs go..
