I think its the perspective distorting it (it is a curved staircase after all...) but does the upper half bow downwards a little?

Started meshing my Unreal Tournament level. Probably prematurely but I will be able to get some glamor shots more quickly. Good exercise.

Started whiteboxing again and am going to upscale this room as quick as possible in order to set the tone for the rest of the level.

Adjusted it per SuperDuperYeah's critique. I will be looking into scanning some of the more producer type things to include on the website that are not NDA'd (or simply creating some). Please let me know how it reads now and if there are any additional changes I should consider aside from content additions. Thanks all! The critiques are awesome.

Cool you made that bridge map with the timers in clan wars? That should be at the top and you should clearly show its been used on a widely watched tournament.

Good call! I have reordered it to be most recent first and provided sample games links.

I have updated my site a little bit. I am trying to take the tact of quality over quantity at this point and am working on many things to include in the future; namely new levels for the level design area, working on a logo right now for a few folks, and of course continuing to pad the 3D section. Please let me know if you have any thoughts that I may continue improving.

    She said YES!!!

So here's how it went down. I took her out to a local airport for our anniversary (dating) and got her a ride in my cousin's 2 seat Stearman (open canopy) bi-plane. Looks like this model here:

    [Blocked Image: http://www.warbirdalley.com/images/Stearman-04July05-overRFD-3.jpg]

Unbeknownst to her, I had hired another pilot to fly a banner that read "Will you marry me?" During the flight (which was very overcast and had a low ceiling of only 300 feet or so) - the banner guy was flying along (having picked up the tow banner in front of everyone in a batman style pick-up) - and my cousin did a flyby of his plane, asking my fiance (that sounds sooooo good) to read the banner. He then joked that "oh that's funny, someone must be getting proposed to today - John wouldn't do that though." This played perfectly for her (although she had small alarms going off in her head she told me later). Then they landed the plane (her family and my family were there). She hadn't really seen anybody yet though, and got out of the plane. Once down, the tow guy flew across the runway at basically 0 feet dragging the banner along the runway (very cool - again, batman - I swear). She read it again and I got down on my knee behind her while she was distracted. She turned around, freaked out a little (as anticipated) and said yes. I'm engaged gang!

Edit: Just found out that the guy who strapped her in while my cousin finished prep work was a NASA astronaut. That was an awesome suprised to us both.

The alarm light being used in a level (Yellow emissive lights). Does this make me an environment artist now?

Nothing like a simple alarm light for Unreal Tournament 4

Never even played Unreal Tournament, but your sketches and handwriting are beautiful.

Thank you. The level will be beautiful when I get done with it too! Made a little headway last night and started rethinking some of the elevations on the interior of the temple.

Started working up another Unreal Tournament 4 level finally. See plans and an early (very) WIP blockout.

Holy mother of luck, jesus christ. I almost choked to death on a piece of hard bread like 10 minutes ago. I was alone in the room and suddly the bread got stuck really deep in my throat, I struggled to breathe, I was spewing saliva everywhere. I tried washing it down with water or puking it up but nothing worked, after a minute or so I tried my hardest to calm myself and focus on getting in as much air between my saliva-spewing breaths as possible, and after another 30 seconds I could finally breathe again, it went down somehow and I drank tons of water as soon as I could breathe. Holy shit I thought I was done for sure, it was scary as fuck. Looks like keeping a water bottle filled near you 24/7 won't even save you.

Ninja edit: It went on for 3-4 minutes, longest minutes of my life o.o

For future reference, 1. Try to stay calm (I know its scary, but time is precious when dealing with loss of air issues). 2. If you are coughing that is a good thing. Keep coughing. Do not try to force it back down with water as that could potentially worsen the situation. Also, coughing is a signal that you are still getting air in and out. If coughing is not working, then when you are alone try to locate a chair or other hard surface with which you can "throw" your abdomen into (fall onto it) which will help to force air up through your lungs outwards and propelling the lodged item out with it (by collapsing the diaphragm). <-- Just in case you're wondering this is what I learned in professional rescue certifications, so I'm not making it up.

If you're lucky enough to have other people around you, show the international sign of choking (grab your hands to your throat -- coincidentally this is also an instinctual reaction often). Hopefully someone there knows how to deal with choking hazards and can assist you.

At the end of the day, I am glad you are alright. You're throat will probably hurt for a while and maybe a little inflamed.

Getting more and more responsabilities in the studio, managing gameplay elements, playtests ant QA testers, it begins to be very weary + Utralfow + my (starting) final year prototype + very hot weather... I've only slept 5 to 6 hours these last few nights (rather than my usual 8 to 9 hours that makes a big differences). I'm getting very exhausted this week. :gonk:

Keep pushing on and pull back on the unnecessary items as you can. Sleep is imperative for proper body functions and some people (such as myself) can easily operate on 5-6 hours of sleep a night whereas others need much more.

Started my new job as Community Development Intern 7 weeks ago, replaced the previous Director of the department and am managing the department. Not bad for a temporary intern that has never dealt with community planning, developer agreements (land), and viewed architectural and engineering plans in-depth before with a critical eye. Doing a lot of presentations to stakeholders and successfully replaced one of my assistants in lieu of retirement. Now if only I can get a games industry job! Apparently, my skills do not match those that companies are looking for. :?

Oh... and I have the engagement ring. . . :XD: Now for the proposal.

Actually, this is something I could use some understanding on as well. So aside from exploded mesh baking and setting the different UV islands to different smooth groups (standard baking practices)... what does one do differently than a normal, non-open mesh?
