Send a PM if you want me to have a look over it. I don't have that much first hand experience myself, but I've been digesting a lot of info over time.

    Hey, welcome to Mapcore!

I had a look at your portfolio and I have to say it's pretty good! The theme is clean, seems pretty functional and it expands with additional information on dedicated project pages.

Firstly, the images can be slow to load initially. I would recommend finding a compromise in quality vs size with jpeg. I tried both on my phone and on PC. On my phone, your vimeo background intro wouldn't even load. I thought you should know even though recruiters are browsing on their desktop most of the times.

Secondly, you haven't updated your second entry with additional information. It's just there, empty, no info, nothing. Also, the greybox mp maps feel a bit weak compared to some of the more refined entries like LOUISIANA BAYOU.

It's cool to see that you have experience in other areas, but I don't know if I would keep SASHIMI SLAMMERS and CAR CRASHING there. I would definitely remove the Level Design Notebook. As for Early Work, I would collapse that under one entry. Right now, there's a lot of stuff and not all is arguably on the same level of quality.

Overall, it's good! You know the theory, have some working prototypes and also some additional skills. I'd argue that you just need to apply and do the design tests. If you have time on the side, try to do an art pass on some of those greybox levels or at least show some consideration for the level art with some rough placeholders.

I've been wanting to get into film photography for a long time now and I finally bought an old camera + 50mm lens on ebay. It's an Olympus OM-2 md. Production year was around 1979. Loaded my first roll of film today and I have to say, the feeling is quite different from your digital camera. Looking through the viewfinder makes you feel more involved with what's in front of you. Maybe because there's less "Camera" between you and the world. Anyway, I'm excited to see how the photos turn out. The camera seems to be in pretty good shape all things considered. It has some shit in the viewfinder and a small dent on the exterior prism metal. I just hope there's no light leaks.

@Mitch Mitchell Oh come on, man.. The first issue with the minimap, that I understand. The rest is just nitpicking. Auto collect would not work for instance when it comes to attachments as you might prefer to use a low tier scope; you also don't require every type or all of the ammo or consumable as inventory space is limited. TTK is arguable, as the last tier armours are pretty bulky, but don't have much of an issue with that. I get that you like your fps to be as simple and pure as it was back in the day, but those management elements are not bad. Yeah, it's not an arena shooter, but the fights can get pretty intense. I think that's what I like most about it. You have these periods of quiet followed by intense action moments.

Btw, Vince Zampella, CEO of Respawn, has mentioned in some article that EA was not involved whatsoever with their decision to develop Apex and release it the way that they did. And he has also confirmed that there will be more of Titanfall later this year, though not sure if we're seeing the third entry. I think this was a good move for their long term success. If they manage to retain at least a quarter of those player for the long haul, it would probably boost their sales for their future ips significantly. That's something they could do with after their previous two releases.

Super sarcastic. You should at least write something about the company you work for and provide a website link. Then what else can you tell us about the game? Is it even past the prototype stage? Does it have a placeholder name? How did you guys decide on 25-30 levels? There's barely any information to work with. It isn't a good way to attract people.

  • Metro: Exodus

Not taking sides, since the Epic Store could be a positive thing long term in regards to Steam competition. However, at the moment, these exclusive deals are simply a shitty move. If Epic doesn't add the basic functions that Steam has, it will only keep gaining a negative image.

Also, this is probably the saddest thing I've seen today:

"The recent decision to move Metro Exodus from Steam to the Epic Game Store was made by Koch Media / Deep Silver alone. The recent comments made by a member of the 4A Games development team do not reflect Deep Silver’s or 4A Games’ view on the future of the franchise. They do reflect the hurt and disappointment of a passionate individual who has seen what was previously nothing but positive goodwill towards his work turn to controversy due to a business decision he had no control over. We respectfully ask that any and all valid feedback over this decision is directed at Koch Media / Deep Silver, and not the developers at 4A Games. The future release strategy of the Metro series lies with Koch Media / Deep Silver. Our decision to partner with Epic Games was based on the goal of investing in the future of the series and our development partner at 4A Games. We have every intention of continuing this franchise, and a PC version will always be at the heart of our plans."

TLDR version: Old man fails to recognise the growing medium of video games and licenses his creative universe for a one time payment from CDPR. The games turn out to be one of the most successful rpg series and earn millions of dollars. Now he regrets his decision and, I'd like to believe what Metro 2033 author said, "his wife nags him about it in the evening".

@will2k Congrats! It must have been a challenge to keep at it for so long so consistently. What's the play time for the mod from start to finish? Also, how many hours per day did you dedicate to it?

@blackdog Taken from their website: https://mundfish.com/en/

"Atomic Heart is an action RPG game. The story is about all the things that could have happened in the reality of the USSR but didn’t. Technical revolution has already occurred, robots, the Internet, holograms have already been invented, but all these innovations are immersed in the atmosphere of communism, imperialism and confrontation with the West. The protagonist of the game is a Soviet KGB officer and his Party sends him to the facility 3826 and are waiting for the report. The world of the game consists of several regions – an open parts of the surface with different biomes. It has a multi-level structure with surface and underground abandoned departments of the Facility. The combat system in ordinary (non-PVP) regions encourages the use of melee weaponry, while in PVP areas we give players more freedom and don’t limit the use of the firearms. Most of the enemies are a variety of combat vehicles produced at the Factory. Each robot was originally made to serve the needs of the Soviet industry or to help Soviet citizens in a daily life. The robots are implemented with a combat program that should be activated in case of a war."

Looks like the guys at Epic have pulled yet another bold and aggressive move against Steam. Metro: Exodus is gonna be pulled off Steam and be made exclusively available on PC through Epic Store until 2020. All the current pre-orders will be honoured on Steam though.

“Metro Exodus is amazing and is deservedly one of the most anticipated PC titles of 2019,” said Tim Sweeney, founder and CEO of Epic. “We are partnering with Deep Silver to launch Metro Exodus, underpinned by Epic’s marketing support and commitment to offering an 88% revenue split, enabling game creators to further reinvest in building great games and improving the economics of game stores for everybody.”
