I got a win on my first game. Hitscan is kind of a joke in br. Also some of the abilities are really aggrevating to play against. I like that there are unique locations, no fall damage and rough pathing instead of pubg style open-ness. Also the lense effects are really annoying. I'm so tired of br it's so easy since the majority of players will be bad cuz there are no ranks and the game is demanding.

Played 3 matches earlier today.
I love the movement, which is not surprising since it's running on Titanfall 2 engine. Shooting feels snappy and smooth. Learning curve is a bit steep, there's a lot of clutter in the HUD and I don't know what ammo goes in what weapon, or what scope goes where half of the time. I guess it's the sort of thing you learn as you play.
Very solid and polished shooter, I can see why it's doing so well.
Not of a fan of the grainy and razor sharp look of the game, there's a lot of aliasing everywhere and the enemies sometimes blend a little too much with the environment. (Which is a critique I remebnber having for both Titanfall games too)

Agree with that, but still impressive what they've managed to do with the Source engine

Guns are not tiered, they’re preference (and situational). Play with them and find some that you like. I mostly roll with the wingman pistol, longbow rifle and peacekeepe shotty. Attachments are tiered however and corresponds to the same color coding as skins. White < Blue < Purple < Yellow. When you tag a blue armor for instance, the voice line goes ”armor here, level 2”. I don’t think it’s complicated, it’s basically Quake 3 pickups on steroids with all the attachments, that you learn the depth of over a few hours of gameplay.

Coming from PUBG, which is intense but also goes from being an Okayish-experience into an absolute mess every other update, this is such a welcomed change - to be able to get consistently smooth frame-rates, while looking hell of a lot better. You can play it without stressing as much as you might in PUBG or DOTA2. I get a few random crashes and you can't rejoin a session so that's a bummer. Fortnite felt too cartoony for my liking but this has a Borderlands-like vibe. The weapons are fun, managing items and picking up stuff is simpler too. Definitely playing this for a while!
Hope 4 people squads are a thing in the future, and maybe more maps.

Well they sort of are tiered, since same class guns (eg: AR) can be both light or heavy ammo.
Plus you can find the epic ones completely kitted.
From my experience it’s basically useless to have any light ammo gun, unless you are at the very beginning, facing unarmed or just pistol-armed enemies. Although I managed to kill two armed guys whilst I only had the throwing ninja-star-looking thing, and one with melee only (from behind).
I understand the attachments/armour colours.

The r-301 rifle with light ammo deals 14/28 (body/headshot), full auto with high accuracy. The flatline, also a rifle, though heavy ammo, deals 16/32 full auto with less accuracy. As an example. It’s more about preference.

I love Blackout (and still play it) but the fact that I now find it a bit clunky is a testament to how well designed and streamlined this game is. Simply having attachments added to weapons automatically (and switched when weapons are swapped) makes a huge difference (compared to sitting in the inventory in Blackout, removing attachments and re-attaching manually). Also picking things up while running past without having to hold a button (on console). The little things really do add up.

I haven’t played this anymore, but it’s still going strong and a new hero is being released, along with the announcement of the Season scheme, much alike Fortnite, starting today actually.

This video, I think very convincingly, ties the success of Apex Legends to the worsening and widespread income inequality we see throughout our society.
The central thesis touches on a lot of topics that seem especially relevant these days, such as the ongoing "race to the bottom" of game development, conversion to parasitic F2P/spotify models, handing over industry-wide promotion to monopolies like Amazon via Twitch "influencers".External Content www.youtube.comContent embedded from external sources will not be displayed without your consent.Through the activation of external content, you agree that personal data may be transferred to third party platforms. But on the other hand, it's hard to imagine the business model it pushes and normalizes being sustainable in the long term once the concept of "microtransactions" has less novelty to consumers, nor healthy for the industry at large when BR games cannibalize eachother's success so rapidly, and games that aren't chasing the BR trend hardly stand to be profitable.

I’ve played a lot of BR games: PUBG, Fortnite, Realm Royale, Battlerite Royale, Blackout, and now Apex Legends.
This is my opinion on Apex Legends: Respawn took all of the best and most innovative game mechanics from other Battle Royale games, and smushed them into one cohesive game.
EDIT: I think it’s pretty clear that this game also feels a lot like Titanfall 2, since it’s developped in the same engine by the same team, but I’m going to focus instead on the game’s influences from its peers in the BR genre.
I think it’s interesting just to take a look at the variety of influences Respawn considered when developing Apex:
- Black Ops IV — Enemies drop similar looking loot-boxes, and the looting interface feels very similar.
- Battlerite Royale — Resurrection points (you can resurrect dead teammates [provided you take their banner from their corpse] from any of the green map markers), Armor rarity (white→orange), High-loot zones, class-based with cooldowns, and boost locations (in Apex they’re balloons).
- PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds — technique for diving [the optimal way in both PUBG and Apex is called ‘wave dropping’ and involves intermittently diving to gain speed, then flattening out to get the most distance, repeatedly.
- Realm Royale — lack of parachute, class-based, abilities with cooldowns.
- Fortnite — Game’s pace and speed, the strength of close-range weapons, weapon rarity.
And I have to tell you, they did a hell of a job making this mutant of a AAA Battle Royale title into a masterpiece.
You don’t have to sit and watch the whole game from your squadmate’s POV if you die early since there’s a possibility for resurrection.
You can even get back into a game within 10 seconds once you do lose. It feels to me like this game has some serious potential, in terms of entertainment value from streamers playing, and in terms of eSports.
