This mechanisms always serve a purpose, but to me it’s just so glaring that feels too fake. I think doesn’t display courage in what you’re writing. You want to show your cards early, find a way to make it interesting till the end.
I can get over these “long games” in movies like Saw/thrillers in general, normally they have a clever way to explain things and things happen too fast to notice gaps, but you do it in sci-fi and I feel tricked, it’s basically a deus ex machina. We are talking about thirty years of plan…! Were they just waiting for K to accidentally uncover the secret?
Dunno maybe I just had too high expectations.
