Off the top of my head I can think of a bunch of companies that are showing off the industry, making an impact, whilst maintaining a lean footprint (at least by the release of their noteworthy titles)

Housemarque (Returnal) ~80 devs Kojima Productions ~80 devs IO Interactive (Hitman 2016) ~70 devs Media Molecule (Dreams) ~50 devs Hello Games (No Mans Sky) ~25 devs Unknown Worlds (Subnautica) ~25 devs Bluepoint Games (the best remasters we’ve seen) ~70 devs

and there’s surely more, or many have grown after their successes etc.

What I mean is it doesn’t seem to me we’ve seen a big shift since the previously mentioned “indiepocalypse”, it’s more a continuous cycle of people establishing new companies and achieving success despite size, thanks to better tech available, more talent available (including outsourcing studios). So I don’t expect to see a whole lot of companies all of a sudden pop up, maybe a gentle increase. Ofc great if I’m wrong!

I don’t understand why we’re talking of the “return of the indies”… as if they died, when?

Since the “indie revolution” led by Jonathan Blow & co haven’t we seen a constant stream of great titles from small teams?

If anything, I haven’t seen any standout performance from the AAA industry.

Binged very quickly through The People v OJ Simpson. Can’t believe how little I knew of the case despite being so prominent. I only knew/remembered for proximity and pop culture the couple bits like the chase, the glove… i but had no idea was such a long trial.

I couldn’t find an official press but several articles report as official the use of UE. Basically they’ve remastered the mobile versions.

So I read the book "Ego is the enemy" and came to realize why I was able to read it without struggling to concentrate. Because I read it slowly. I never forced myself to read it all in one go.

Have you ever heard about "Divide and conquer"? Pretty sure everyone has. Why not use it in everyday life? You have an article of ten pages to read. Most of the time you delay reading it, you are doing it because reading is hard or the text's content is hard to grasp. Divide it, set a goal of spending 2 minutes reading ONE PAGE. Then read the next. Depending on the case you might want to subdivide the task in "READ HALF A PAGE" and then take your time to think about it.

Why is game development a complex process? Because it has so many pieces that you need to spread out the tasks in multiple areas at the same time. Everyone is doing a smaller task with the ultimate goal of completing the whole product.

I remember years ago when I was failing to complete any maps. What made me complete maps was that I began to make lists of tasks such as texture, pillars, water, lights, so on. Years and years later and I still have similar issues and they all relate to the lack of direction. I need to have a clear direction before I start a map. I can relate to a teacher who once told me that during her bachelor in astrophysics she had to make a plan to concentrate on what subjects she would take per semester without being overloaded.

This post motivated me to check how many tabs I have open on my phone. It’s 282, including Mapcore.

The limit for tabs on iOS seems to be 500.

Not sure how I’m supposed to sift through all this shit. Surely most stuff can be closed after reading the title, probably now irrelevant articles I opened “as bookmark”. A bunch of stuff is game-dev articles I was meant to archive.

Just like reading a book, I should force myself to spend a bit of time every evening…

It seems that all the war stories set in the pacific focus more on that than action. The Thin Red Line was hard to digest (in cinema, than bought DVD and loved it), the Eastwood films set in the Pacific region… what’s up with that? Is it they face Japanese? ?

Spoiler I feel the trailer strongly suggest an “Apocalypse Now in space” with the father-son dynamic, rogue nation etc.

    No.

The only action is seen in the trailer. It’s kinda pointless, as in just a padding scene, nothing to do with the mission objective.

I wonder if they wanted to create an “Odissey” feeling (I’m talking about Homer), but I don’t think it works if that’s what they had in mind.

It’s a slow film, which I wouldn’t have a problem with but there’s nothing insightful I feel. It gave me vibes of Solaris, a film I fell asleep on a couple times and decided was too shit to give another chance.

The final scene is ridiculously competes with The Martian in absurdity, but at least that film was meant to be funny.

Not a talk but a really great look at Disco Elysium, dialogue and skills in particular.

Great for UI designers, but also game and narrative designers I guess.

Pity that they haven’t thought enough about accessibility and responsiveness of the interface, I also watched a video about the Final Cut on console and the text is not big enough/UI not adjustable enough.

Lol, I was in the mood of watching it again (but gave it up cos I pay for subscriptions and just want to use lol).

Pacific I’ve started the first episode a couple times, maybe got to the second, but didn’t feel as engaging so it’s still on the list ? I was thinking to try again.
