Love Jakey's videos. He's normally spot on and pretty fucking funny sometimes.

His previous videos are worth a watch if you want some nostalgia too.

  • What have you watched recently?

Enjoyed this a lot more than I expected. Seeing the world go to shit was really awesome. If you like post-apocalyptic scenarios you should check it out!

    Hey all!

We've got a Lead Artist position opened up here at our head studio in Oxford.

It's on a new project for a brand new IP. Can't really say anything obviously but it's a different kind of game to what Rebellion normally does.

If anyone is interested or knows of anyone interested send them my way and we can arrange a paid visit to Oxford to show them around and obviously show them the project they'd be leading the art on :)

    More info here: https://rebellion-1.workable.com/j/1AC969E553

    Cheers all!

Love videos like the one above. It's awesome to see how developers pushed the consoles of their time and how they managed to port these games. The N64 version is seriously impressive. Getting both sides of the game onto 64MB must have seemed an impossible task to begin with.

    It got an 84...

I'll try to find where they announced this, I read it quite a while ago but only remembered it recently.

Wasn't that to do with their bonus? Bethesda said they'd get a bonus if they got a Metacritic of 85+ but they got 84 so they got nothing.

All of this crap with F76 is really making me want to go back and play FO3 and FO:NV again.

So how big is the map or is it just played on traditional CS maps?

Making CSGO free to play is probably a good move. It's been out for so long now anyone who was gonna buy it already has.

Yeah I certainly don't think (And I hope) Fallout is going anywhere. It's a huge franchise.

But I agree that Fallout 4 was a step back in some regards. Sure the gunplay was a vast improvement and the environments were quite nice but the story wasn't great and the voiced protagonist just meant we didn't get the branching storylines Fallout is known for.

I understand that FO76 is something people at the company wanted to try but I think it will be a big wake up call for Bethesda. People are getting sick of the same old bugs plaguing their games and because it's an online game these seem to be magnified since it doesn't just affect a single player, it's a whole server each time they happen.

I know Bethesda really doesn't want to build a new engine but maybe it's time to consider it?

Man I miss the GoldSrc days. Played so many games and mods which used it and still play Counter-Strike to this day even if it is a newer iteration.

Well if the map is popular then that's a sign to Valve that the map already has potential. I wouldn't expect them to give feedback on a map with very little subscribers.

Besides, a lot of people create maps for the fun of it, not everyone has the aim of getting into an operation. You can get a lot of feedback from places like Mapcore and the wider CS community. If you engage with the community and put your map out there for playtests then people will come and you'll get valuable feedback.

Did they? When did they say that?

I doubt Obsidian would get the chance now anyway since Microsoft have acquired them

Had a blast with this over the weekend with my friends. We all got the EA Access pass for a month so we could play early.

All the maps feel great in conquest, but some can be difficult as hell in Grand Operations. Attackers normally get raped, especially when it's the take the bomb to destroy the gun objective. The bomb carrier really shouldn't be highlighted at all times, it makes attacking impossible. Plus the flak often kills you before you can leave the plane, which is kinda realistic but when you don't have the extra tickets to account for it it's not as cool.

Gun play is solid though and the squad revives and fortification building is great for team work. Pretty much always see squads stick together now which is great! Glad 3D spotting is gone as it makes sneaking and flanking much easier now since you don't have a glowing red triangle over your head all the time.

Seeing a lot of "only in Battlefield" moments too with planes crashing around me and the V-1 rockets are awesome fun to use.

I think the only thing I dislike is the amount of button clicks it takes to customise your soldier. Constantly going back and forth in menus it seems. But I think a fix is coming for that soon. Also, anything you unlock you can't use until you leave the server. I hate this. I don't want to have to leave the server and queue again for something I've unlocked during gameplay. It should be in my inventory ready to use.

But the WW2 setting looks beautiful in 2018. Can't wait to see some more maps with hopefully more iconic locations from some big battles.

Oh, and great job on Fjell, Puddy. It's a great infantry map :D

16 minutes ago, Puddy said: hypothetically, i would theoretically like a contest which had a shorter deadline and was focused on creating a "neat whitebox" map which perhaps had a stated goal of trying to innovate the map structure (the latter not being necessary ofc)

by "neat whitebox", i mean a whitebox level that is fully playable and tested but also fairly fleshed out in terms of geo and architecture and where artistic considerations have been made to a large degree (architecture, shapes, vistas. placeholder art etc) but a full artpass hasn't been made

so the goal wouldn't be to have a 100% finished level, just a very promising base that has solid gameplay and the potential to look great when completed

I like this. With a whitebox you can iterate as much as you want without art getting in your way and you're not afraid to make the big changes because you might ruin a view. In an ideal world art shouldn't be touching a whitebox until the level is fun and balanced.

Everyone is on a level playing field too since art isn't being taken into consideration.

Fjell looks really interesting. I like the sound of an infantry map with no vehicles but planes.

I was sceptical when first announced since BF1 at launch kinda let me down but after playing BF1 again recently and seeing how it's improved a lot since launch and the BFV beta players are really giving you guys praise I can't wait for release now!
