My very first death in the game was caused by control issues (crouch defaults to control, you need to do a running slide to avoid a robodog, hitting W, Shift, and Control at the same time is awkward). After rebinding/configuring stuff (I appreciated that rebinding crouch from control to c automatically rebound weapon mode from c to control), I was pretty much fine, though. Game ran fantastically well on mostly high on my older PC, while still looking fantastic. IMO The Idtech 5 engine fit this game way better than Rage, the issues like a lack of dynamic lighting are a lot less obvious in a linear FPS than in an "open world" game.

I just finished it today. Pretty damn good game. I would say that perhaps my biggest complaint is that between London Nautica and the Gibraltar Bridge, there's very few chances to find situations where you can meet many of the perk requirements. There's no Marksmen Rifle between those two stages at all, for example, and you need to get 25 kills with it for the Quick Reload perk. I really appreciated the varied settings and gameplay, I just wish that gap between moments where it was even possible to do certain gameplay styles was smaller.

If you start a new game by replaying the chapters (also, make a different choice in the prologue) instead of actually starting a new game (which overwrites everything) you'll find it to be much easier to get those perks. Not saying your argument is invalid but since the game was made to be replayed anyway, there's a way around that.

They fixed the AI and stealth sections of the first, I'll buy it for the PS4 even though I own Last light on the PC already.

They apparently did. From their site:

    Quote

With re-worked next-gen visuals, smooth 60FPS gameplay on console, as well as new and improved content and features, METRO REDUX is much more than a simple HD upgrade.

For the REDUX edition, Metro 2033 has been completely overhauled:

    • The original game has been rebuilt in the latest and greatest iteration of the 4A Engine, bringing all the graphical and gameplay improvements from Last Light to Metro 2033 Redux
    • Enjoy completely re-mastered visuals: advanced lighting, dynamic weather, more detailed characters with improved animation, more dynamic destruction and improved smoke, fire and particle effects
    • Experience radically improved gameplay: advanced enemy AI, improved combat and stealth mechanics, superior weapon handling and more responsive, intuitive controls plus signature features from Last Light such as the atmospheric ‘mask wipe’ mechanic, weapon customization, and silent kills and takedowns

Metro: Last Light Redux has also received a graphical facelift and gameplay improvements that carry across both titles, including new melee animations, and the fan-requested ‘Check Watch’ and ‘Check Inventory’ features. It also includes all previously released Season Pass add-on content – a further 10 hours of single-player gameplay.

With METRO REDUX, players now have the choice to experience both Metro games the way they want with the introduction of two unique ‘Play Styles.’ Those who favoured the more survival horror oriented gameplay of Metro 2033 can play both campaigns in the ‘Survival’ Play Style, a fraught slow-burn fight for survival with limited resources, deadlier enemy AI, and slower reload speeds. Those who enjoyed the more action oriented gameplay of Metro: Last Light can try the ‘Spartan’ Play Style, providing Artyom with a powerful set of combat skills and more plentiful resources.

In addition, the legendary Ranger Mode returns to both games, providing the most immersive and challenging experience as the HUD is stripped away and hardcore rules apply.

Upon release, Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux will each be available separately as a digital download for Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system and PC a suggested $24.99 / €19.99 / £15.99.

Alongside the digital release, a boxed compilation containing both games, titled METRO REDUX will be available at retail for a suggested $49.99 / €39.99 / £34.99.

Metro 2033 Redux, Metro: Last Light Redux and the compilation Metro Redux are scheduled for release this Summer for Xbox One, PlayStation, and Windows PC.

Dedicated Linux and SteamOS versions will also release later this year.

You know, you hear a lot of cliches when you're about to become a parent. Now that the end is near I realize that most of them are true. My daughter responds to my voice and my touch. I've been playing with her for months. Slowly pressing my finger against my wife her belly and waiting for my daughter to push it back. Normally she doesn't respond when people do that. But with me, I just have to talk and she goes wild. Now that my wife is currently living with her parents (closer to the hospital) I can't do that anymore. So I figured we could try putting the phone on speaker and hold it next to my wife her belly. Guess what? It works and my daughter still goes wild when she hears my voice. Having such an connection with something unborn, something we two created, that is just magical!

This is the most fun I had with a shooter in years. Sure, there are some complaints but they quickly melt away against all it's awesomeness. But let's mention them anyway:

    • Both gameplay and story are great but they feel forced upon one another. It's a clear distinction between "now you play" and "now you sit and watch". Makes it feel very gamey and it takes you out of the experience. I think in-game cinematics would have been better. Especially considering the volume of story intersections. Kinda like how Half Life 2 did it.
    • Using two keys to lean for instance is really counter intuitive. You can't fix that in the menu and I don't understand this design decision. The same goes for other moves. Control wise those things could have been done better.
    • The AI could use a bit of extra polish and some bits are a bit buggy (mostly AI related).

    That's it for me.

Christ, it's really embarrassing watching the whole Xbox One thing. It's just been a constant series of U-turns and contradiction, and while some are using that as a defence of Microsoft and claiming that they're listening to their fans, it's clear to me that the real reason for it is because there's a complete lack of focused direction and vision on Microsoft's part. They just don't seem to know what they're doing, and it's now gotten to the point where the XBone is basically just the PlayStation 3 with better graphics (I say PS3 because unlike the Xbox 360 that console had very good multimedia capabilities).

I know I'll end up with both, I just wish Microsoft would figure out what the fuck it is they want the XBone to be before they sink the platform. The proof is in the pudding: the PS4 is absolutely annihilating the XBone in terms of sales, and almost every game is coming out in an inferior state on the XBone. It currently has an advantage in that bizarrely its multimedia capabilities are superior to the PS4's (which are a step back from the PS3), but Sony has already committed to bridging the gap and considering that they have their own previous console to draw from I've little doubt it'll soon cease to be an issue.

It's just not looking good, especially considering the whispers within Microsoft about the Xbox division's future. But if Microsoft goes down, who could possibly replace them? At the moment it's becoming a one-console race, with Nintendo not really competing as a new-generation console and no other vendors really positioned to take the gaming market. The Ouya has been a disastrous failure; Apple continues to be antipathetic towards gaming. The only 'console' that could really become a serious contender is the Steam Machine line.

Of course, Microsoft could turn everything round. They have many solid IPs, and as the console is now out they're in a position to make it increasingly affordable. In terms of horsepower it's not that much behind the PS4, so I don't think that will be any kind of factor with the mainstream. I really hope they fix it, because competition is good. Part of me is even tempted to help them out by getting an XBone sooner rather than later.

Very weird things happening in the industry right now.

Well put. Normally I would say the same regarding getting both eventually, but this time I'm seriously thinking that it will not happen. I'm a bit done with Halo and Gears and so far there's nothing for it or coming on the Xbox One that makes me want to get one. I would sooner buy a Wii U if they lower the price

Just came back from the new X-Men. I was expecting a lot but it left me disappointed. It tries too hard to combine these two great casts but it doesn't make any sense whatsoever and it keeps dragging on without anything really significant happening. I was literally starting to check the time about 45 minutes in. What a waste of potential.

For the life of me, I can't understand the 8.9 Imdb rating it currently has. Everybody is singing it's praises. It's even certified fresh on RottenTomatoes.

I've moved into my new house, the commute times are even longer than before but I found a train station not too far from my place so I rely on my car for only a little bit each day, which is better. I'm always stressed on relying on an old cheap car for my daily commute because I just never know when it's going to break down and prevent me from going to work.

I booked a 1-year parental leave because that's a thing in Germany, looking forward to that, as my wife got pregnant just as my last crunch was finishing and I feel like I never had a chance to recover due to her moods and my child and commute and exhausting holidays back to France to see family.

There's quite a few things to do around the house to make it good, and the incoming birth of my second child puts a lot of pressure on getting at least the kitchen, living room and one bedroom done as soon as possible to greet the baby in a clean/safe environment, so I'm rushing through those tasks as fast as I can. Had to put my indie project aside for a few weeks because of that, I hope to get back to it for good during my parental leave. Also the train I take in the morning and evenings now is long but nice and has electrical plugs in it so I'll probably be able to use my commute time to do some coding, so that's a positive thing I guess. I find being in charge of my own project creatively reminds me why I wanted to make games in the first place. After 10 years of modding, going back to an independent project feels just right, even with the limited time and energy I have to pour into it.

Not sure yet if buying a house right now (that house in particular) is a good thing or just not a bad one. I don't expect to stay in it for too many years because of its distance to some of the schools we want to put our children in, as I don't want to spend hundreds of euros a month in gas for driving them to and from school. Hopefully I can sell it back quickly and for a added value after I repaired the shit out of it, but I'm avoiding major structural changes to it because the prices can go up real fast if you have to call on a professional to do it.

Only the future will tell, at least I'll have learned a lot of very valuable lessons I'll be able to apply to my next purchase and renovations. I'm still always surprised how life can go so fast and so slow at the same time, especially after having kids. I sometimes, for instance after reading Furyo's interview, regret having had a kid so early and thus not being flexible and free to move/travel to seek better opportunities, not being able to save up money, etc. It doesn't really help to think like that, but when I see other people moving around the world and having fun joining cool projects and companies, able to have hobbies that are time-consuming and expensive, or able to do side projects properly while having a full-time job, I can't help but question my past actions that led me to this situation. Not sure I was made to be a family guy, I just happened to fall into it and now I feel a bit trapped. That'll pass I guess.

    That's me!

    Display More

I think it's normal to feel that way. I wouldn't worry too much about it. In fact, I would try to forget it as soon as possible. There's a whole lot coming at you right now with no easy way out. It's only logical to feel trapped. The crunch, pregnant wife, renovating, work, etc. It's all riding on you mate. With that comes the realization that you're getting older, have more responsibilities now and that certain ships have simply sailed. That stings and makes you doubt your past decisions. Don't go there!

I know the feeling all to well. Best example, given your current situation, is that I'm a bit jealous (which I never am) that my friends are all having a blast, connecting more and more to one another, and I'm stuck saving money for the baby, supporting my wife, taking care of everything, busy job, etc. That too brings doubt about it being the right decision and stuff. But again, don't go there dude. Never compare yourselves to others and look at it from their perspective. When I confessed to my friends I was feeling a bit jealous they said they were jealous of me. One of them has been single a long time and would kill to have a family. The other wishes he had his own home and yet another would do anything to move up through the company like I did. It all depends on your point of view. As soon as you get your leave, you'll have a breather and start to feel better, trust me.

For anyone else, besides the example above, that feel the need to look at the past, I'll leave you with this:

Deep Silver was keen to point out that Redux is not a simple 1080p port of the original games, but a "true director's cut", re-engineered for modern hardware. Both games will feature vastly improved visuals - particularly in the case of Metro 2033, which has aged since its 2010 release, the publisher admitted - with new gameplay features and content, and all of the original DLC.

Metro 2033 Redux has been rebuilt entirely using the newer and much improved Last Light engine, Deep Silver told CVG at the reveal event. This improves the game's tech overall, but also adds subtle gameplay details that were new to Last Light, such as the ability to wipe blood splatter from your visor.

The originally third-person cutscenes in the first game have been completely redone in a first-person view, bringing it in line with Last Light, and a number of levels have been extended with new sections to 'improve the flow' of the game, according to the publisher.

Deep Silver acknowledged that some fans of the slow, survival-focused pace of Metro 2033 were disappointed with the faster, action-oriented sequel. To remedy this, both games will be graced with two new play options: Survival, for those who liked the slower-paced survival style of Metro 2033, and Spartan, for those who welcomed the faster-paced action of Metro Last Light.

Playing Metro Last Light in Survival mode promises to deliver the style of play from the original. According to Deep Silver, this will mean re-tweaked gameplay, such as rebalanced weapons and ammo and slower reload times among other changes.

    Thank you guys!

I haven't been my friend, I wrote "slammed" as to mean that I got rejected bluntly after what seemed could be a perfect relationship.

This is not sentimentally painful... it bites because picture this: this girl started working here just a few weeks ago and we immediately had an incredible relationship from the first day. Probably because I was just being friendly while she fancied me right away, I'm not good at all at these things.

A week later I had already met her parents and had some food at their place and she invited me camping.

Last week I cooked for her and we chatted till late. Evening after she invited me for drinks and everything was going incredibly smoothly, we even had the full moon lighting the way while walking hand in hand: I was going to kiss her right there and then, but she started talking about some concerns on having a relationship while working and living in the same place. As we entered the field centre I understood she wanted me to kiss her. But I was already set to do that in front of her door: i thought it was squallid to kiss her in the kitchen, but no kiss in the corridor because of her paranoias about getting caught. We texted right after and she came out saying she could't believe i didn't kiss her in the kitchen, and that created some effing huge expectations so when we got together the following night we kissed but the whole situation felt forced.

We've kept tapping each other these days, waiting for the right moment and last night coming back from the pub we kissed outside. It was better than the other day but still mediocre, so she said she's sorry, she wanted to give us another try but this is not working. Plus the rest of the usual bullcrap: co-workers paranoia, came here with a project, coming out from a 5 years relationship or something.

So lesson learned: girls talk is bullshit, they appreciate the romantic touch just as little and they can be selfish as much as they like to accuse us to be. Always follow when a girl appears ready.

As for what is going on in my life right now: I had some mold in the bathroom and it kept coming back so I bought the strongest product out there. It's white as snow now. But even with all the protection (mouth cap, glasses, gloves) I'm high as a motherfucker. Cannot be healthy but it's actually kinda fun
