Awesome, don't got the coin at the moment but sooner or later, these will be in my collection.

Thanks for all your effort in this btw, HP. They should do wonders for those who use/are interested in getting into CE.

    It's much appreciated.

Generating normal maps from a texture using the nvidia plugin, crazy bump, etc is very different from baking your normals using geometry. If you can, making tileable textures out of actual geometry and baking it will always give you better results than something like crazy bump.

Crazy bump and the like are good for generating some extra, small surface detail normals to overlay on top of your baked normals. As long as you're not in a time crunch and have the capability to bake your geo, there's not a whole lot of reasons to go with generic normal generation as your primary normals.

  • CE3 Max Blend Shader

    • November 24, 2011 at 10:15 AM

    Sweet, thanks HP.

I saw the shader in the blend layer tutorial and thought I'd give it a try. I'll just ditch it and see it in the engine instead.

  • CE3 Max Blend Shader

    • Bunglo
    • November 24, 2011 at 2:41 AM

I'm trying to use the max blend shader that was included in the latest (3.3.7) SDK release to blend a rock and moss texture. For some reason, the first texture appears stretch like there's no UVs on the mesh, the blend texture is fine though.

Is this shader only intended for use with the dirt layer function (would that matter?) or am I incredibly stupid?!? I also see no slot for my blend mask.

Also, there is no way to pull a 'dialogue history' with characters. One guy wanted me to fetch him some Argonian Ale, and when I went back to ask him where it was, he just said 'got that ale yet?' and I was completely clueless as to where to go. I opened up the journal, expecting there to be a 'history' feature there, but it's really vague and simple.

You probably already know this but just in case, if it's an assigned quest, just make it active from your journal and the area you need to go to will show up on your map/compass. I haven't found any dialogue history though either... Maybe if you have captions on? But I doubt it.

I spent about 40 minutes or so last night walking in a small blizzard (at night) back to Whiterun just thinking how awesome it was and how close it feels to actually walking through the forest in the snow. That 40 minutes was a better, more immersive experience than the 8 hours I've played of RAGE. Say what you want about the visuals, I find it hard to see how someone doesn't get sucked into this game, aside from hating this type of gameplay from the start.

EDIT: Wowsers... 274,318 currently playing it according to steam

lol @ giant bug, happens to me every time. A poor elk walked a wee bit too close to them and also got the same

I also stumbled upon a weird bug where the water is renderned way above the surface level it's supposed to. I could only see it at the spot looking a certain angle.

However the keyboard controls are clunky as fuck and the menu system is atrocious. Gonna take a while to get used to it. I'm just glad that i have a couple extra buttons on my new mouse otherwise it would be unbearable.

Play the game a bit more and you shouldn't have much trouble with the controls. 1.5 hours isn't much time with a game (especially for TES, as you know), a few more hours in, the controls were rather favorable for me.

According to Steam, I played for 5.2 hours. I haven't played a game for 5 hours straight in forever, I don't even remember what game it was if I did.

Some clicks* I took along the way:

Been playing on the "high" settings, tried ultra at first but was running a bit too slow for my taste. Think I'll try it again next time I start her up again though.
