    I have no idea what happened to the first post. It originally contained an introductory text, but the forum (or a person) cut off everything after the first line due to a bug or accident or whatever months after it was posted. IIRC, sometimes when I've looked at this thread, the post was back in its entirety just as mysteriously as it vanished. It's notable that that post also doesn't have an "edited by" label. It confuses me a great deal.

    Yes, Microbrush is a 3D modeler that also handles VMF files. Its purpose is to speed up the rough brushwork which takes ages to do in Hammer. At the moment, I am working on a bit of texture support so that texture information is retained and can be edited.

    The bottom of the project page lists some other editor projects worth checking out, too.

    A new version is available for download.
    * Added a tool to switch render modes
    * Added a tool to layout views
    * Added a better font
    * Thinned viewport borders
    * Polished some things

    This is from a scene I've built:

    Adding different render modes that can be switched to on the fly.
    The black wireframe mode is actually a fake, rendered on the polygon faces using a shader.

    The next version will have a font based on Adobe Source Code Pro.

    Whoa, what happened to the first post in this thread? I don't remember merely writing "Hello." o_o

    My website is moving from http://shrinker.beyond-veils.de/ to http://shrinker.seriouszone.com/

    So the project site is now http://shrinker.seriouszone.com/projects/IterationX/Microbrush3/

    Ctrl+F5 on http://shrinker.beyond-veils.de/projects/IterationX/Microbrush3/ to see the new version (2015-12-08).
    Changes:
    * Fixed an undo/redo-related crash when closing a world or the editor
    * Added logging for the modeling tools - you now get live feedback on deltas, dimensions, counts, etc.
    * Extended the help system (comes up when you press F1 while hovering over a window, then rightclick on something) to display relevant currently bound shortcuts (main menu and Mb3 tools)
    * Deleting the selection set 1/2 is now properly undoable
    * Help messages and error messages are now displayed in the log even if the respective plugin is deactivated in the log
    * Modal tools are now canceled by nonmodal tools, too (e.g. making a box is canceled when deleting the selection)
    * The main menu now has a button explaining the not so obvious window controls
    * For better performance, the brush shader is now reused when a world is closed and then a new world created or opened
    * Extended the FAQ a bit
    * Bound opening a .mb3txt file to Ctrl+O (you can change that stuff in config.cfg)
    * Bound opening the toolbar to F10 (horizontal) and Shift+F10 (vertical)

    Winter is coming, the days are getting shorter... so there is more night time to spend programming.

    So the new version, with Quake 3 map support and a hacky version of Aeon's bevel tool (from quake3world.com), is available here (Microbrush-3-wip-2015-...zip): http://shrinker.beyond-veils.de/projects/IterationX/Microbrush3/

    Might have to hit F5 once because screw the browser cache mechanisms. :/

    In the Quake 3 world with curved patch meshes at least. I have no concept for HL2-style displacement surfaces yet.

    The grid is becoming a little easier to use.

    A brush in this context is just a graphical primitive of which you use many to build game levels.

    From the conceptual viewpoint, it's just a set of planes that intersect with each other, and what you see are the polygons computed from that. (Each plane denotes an infinite half space with a solid side and an air side, and the resulting shape is the intersection of the solid sides of those half spaces.)

    Because of how it is computed, it can't have a concave shape, so it can't have a face that looks like the letter L.

    Cutting a brush in pieces just means copy-pasting it and adding new planes to the original and the copy.

    That sounds like you didn't set it up correctly. After unzipping, run the "First start and tasty fresh cookies!.bat" file and follow its instructions.

    I'm working on curved patch mesh support.

    Had an idea for some kind of Lego budgeting plugin, and this is the experimental result.

    This is the first time I've done some actual analysis of the world contents and reacted to it. The plugin can identify and count the different brick types, and the knobs are not generated inside of bricks. Also, the grid is easily configured to represent the proportions of normal Lego bricks.
