Alpha's/ beta's are the most fun, later on the game gets nerfed to shit because someone figures out how to abuse the fuck out of a mechanic. I bet there are some cool things in the alpha that dice people know will never work because of balance but it's there because it's just too cool.

@ koko, your work is wonderful. I mean wow. Go work for double fine.
Anyway I continue my streek of never making a character looking remotely like the concept.
I did a head modelling tutorial for maya, since I never polymodeled a head before, and then took it in to zbrush and made it look completely different, because I got pissed an just brushed away. Now learning topogun and 3d-coat.

If it's all a joke it's a well done one. I remember reading the forum and I could not for the love of god understand why anyone would post there let alone pay money. There is really no discussion to be had, you just get banned over nothing and the owner is the biggest prick online. they only worthwhile articles worth reading are those about arcade gaming http://insomnia.ac/commentary/arcade_culture/ .

I tried googling "why crazybump is shit" and crazy bump no good", haven't come up with any good critiques. So it falls on to Rick to post links that explain why crazybump is shit and how to properly do normal maps.

As far as E-Freak go's, multi quotes are annoying for me to deal with so I'm going to answer you in one big blurb but in order( just imagine I quoted you).
When you refuse to buy form anything other then steam you are forcing companies to use it.
As far as starforce, I never had a problem with it nor did it take up as much resources or delay me playing a game as much as steam. But more importantly starforce isn't really much a player on the western market anymore.
Origin allows you to do the same as steam except it does not need to run every time. So does gamersgate and it doesn't even require any app at all.
30% can be a lot of money, it may not mean much for the survival of BF franchise but for games like Mirror's Edge, it could mean the difference between break even, or weather or not it gets a sequel. regardless the less money a company can expect the less chances they will take.
The market is clearly not wide open and developers are not free to leave, when a large percentage of people refuse to buy anything not on steam.
In any case gamedevs should not suffer because valve managed to get a hold on the on-line distribution market, because they forced you to install steam to play any of their games, no matter if they were retail or not, and refused to put them on rival networks.

To begin and analogy does not need to match up on every exact detail, in fact it can't, my point was and still is that forcing someone to use a competitors services for convenience sake is amoral, as is bashing one company for something you praise another for.
These reasons posted against Origin should be used against steam. At this point steam is a lot more intrusive then Origin or any other DRM system. There is no other system that forces you to start an app of this size and that takes so long as steam, it's unbelievable people can even consider steam not to be a DRM system. Origin just requires you to install and verify the game once, which is a lot handier, and if it means that EA will get 30% more on every purchase, I'll use it over steam, and any like minded app from other publishers.
Steam famboyims essential allows Gabe to jack up royalties as he can just point out how many people will not buy your game if it's not on his network. It's ridiculous and damaging to PC gaming. And even more so since a lot of you are dev's yourself, you are shooting yourself's in the foot.
Still I did suggest a compromise, you pay 30% extra on steam for what you pay on Origin, I think that would be fair, you want convenience, you should pay for it, like in every other aspect of the economy.

Quote from Vilham
Not meaning to start some kind of debate but that analogy is completely wrong. Its like Warner Bros requiring you to sign up for their own film distribution service rather than say lovefilm. Thus doubling up the places you have to store bank and personal details.
The analogy is not wrong, you are asking companies to use a competitor as a publisher because you can't be bothered to install another app. Regardless your still bashing one company for doing something not half as bad as valve and demanding they fork over a good deal of their profits for something so menial as installing another app on your pc. Instead of bashing EA demand valve allow it's game to be sold trough origin, gamersgate, etc... Then you might have a point.
-
Because the current behaviour is like demanding everyone publish retail games trough EA or UBI soft and otherwise refuse to buy their game. Or if we take the movie industry as an example, it would be like refusing to see a movie unless it's from Warner Bros. The very fact steam is only handy as a monopoly should make one wary of supporting it, after all it's hypercritical to bash one company for doing something you support another company for.
Besides with the PC gaming market being as small as it is I laud any measure that see's the developer get 100% profit from their sales rather then fork over 30% to another company. Also unlike steam with origin you download it install it and don't have to start origin every time you want to start the game.
But maybe a compromise would be that the game costs 30% or more on steam so EA gets the same amount of money and steam lovers pay a bit extra for the convenience.

I expect this kind of behaviour on /v/ or by casual but I'm surprised to see actual gamedev's hold these kinds of opinions.
