No offense, but I think you're on the wrong forum, bud. While we do have the occasional programmer around here, it's mostly artists and designers.

I actually want to start bouldering as I need the training for some trips I'm planning. I used to do Kung Fu (Shaolin/Animal Tech), which also includes a very strict and hard training regiment, but after a few years I felt like trying something else.

I actually had to do a full physical exam before starting on the gym. I can also guarantee to you that the environment on my gym is perfect: no real bodybuilders or dumb people, just a bunch of people worried for their health. It's located inside a sports center that offers swim classes, soccer/basketball courts for rent and preactice, so the whole thing just puts you in the right mood.

    Here are my current measurements:

    174 pounds

    24% fat

    37% muscle

My current workout usually starts with a 10 min warm-up (jogging on the treadmill) and then alternating leg/lower body > arms upper body exercises. I start with the bigger muscles and work towards the little ones. Then I finish it up with some abs/core and stretching.

As I said before, I'm feeling good by trying to be there everyday and it has the added plus (for me) that I can skip a day or two and don't feel guilty. It's very easy for me to drop out of stuff if I don't commit, hence the need for me to do it everyday (and create this thread).

I should also mention that I'm regulating my carbs intake and lowering it as much as I can. I'm not on full keto, but pretty close, and should start seeing my fat go down in a few weeks (I've done it before and lost around 30lb with zero physical activity).

You shouldn't think of it as losing 6 kg when working out, because that way it'll never work for motivation. Think about it in terms of losing fat percentage. Muscles weigh more than fat, but they also consume more energy than stored fat does, so it doesn't really matter. Also if you want to lose fat, here's a golden rule: eat less calories than what your body consumes each day.

Again, Fish was also very good at handing out his own abuse. That Penny-Arcade Report article doesn't even mention him as a controversial figure, like all he did to get negative attention was be a genius, and I don't think Fez 2 being cancelled was due to this escapade but rather a contributing factor to twitter meltdown - but, hey, it's Penny-Arcade Report. For the record, here are some other indie stances on this:

holy shit, that last article speaks to me. it is exactly what i would want to say if i could find the words.

I think if I ever got any such critique directed at me (the death threats etc.), I'd laugh it off. I was lolling pretty hard looking at that website, there's no way I could take it seriously. I could see myself taking it one step further and just riling up those people.

So I finally got to try it out, and the results have been pretty amazing. Scaling the heightmap from 512x512 to 4 times its size in Cryengine 3 has yielded a very natural desert environment. A few minor adjustments had to be made, the greatest one being that blur was necessary in order to remove noisy peaks, others included rising/lowering terrain in game to create a suitable gameplay location as well as limiting the terrain height to something more earthy (in this case.I used 256 units).

This is the heightmap I used (same as previous imaged I posted but cropped. raw converted to png for upload):

There are only two problems in this approach:

    1) The beach sand only has wavy lines one way because of the shoreline washing up. However, this can be remedied by superimposing the same image (or another beach image) turned at 90 degrees for more grid like waviness.

    2) Given the flatness of the terrain, the desert will need to be bigger than just slightly over 4 Kilometers (4096x4096). For a desert terrain to make sense, one would most likely need double that size to create the illusion of endlessness. However, this is still doable, albeit more resource consuming.

Also, seir: I tried with google earth, and the resolution is nowhere near good enough to use. I also tried with smoothening this, but the result was a desert that came off as bulky and rigid rather than flowing like sand. Also, erosion on sand doesn't exist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erosion), though you could probably argue that wind on sand has somewhat the same effect. It does mean that sand deserts come off as more wavy rather than just flat, however.

Many people want to liken him to the sort of crazy-genius behavior that e.g. Salvador Dali was, but this guy is nowhere near that. If anything, he sounds like he's autistic with a histrionic side. I haven't played Fez, but that's more because it doesn't seem like my type of game than anything else. At the same time I doubt the hype about Fez is that it is that good, especially after having watched some let's plays of it.

You definitely need to be able to not give a shit and sustain yourself if you want to work as an auteur. I thnk even people like Gabe Newell receive a lot of hate every day, but to my knowledge he at least keeps it personal and within his email. He doesn't have a twitter account where he just lets people talk. Nobody knows how to guard themselves because there is such a dissension between real life and the internet. People are more likely to be fake in real life and truthful on the internet. And thus most people are likely to open themselves up because they weren't expecting this.

I think the next generations growing up with the internet will likely be more truthful in real life as well as on the internet, maintaining less of a chasm between the two. And I see that as a good thing, because it's better to work with the truth than to work with lies. Not that any of them matter in the end, it's all about what each person individually thinks of themselves.
