hahaha, the part where the brown t shirt guy says "if you are familiar with the original bionic commando" is awesome. it's like the nerd from simpsons in real life.

the problem with not watching the news or ignoring everything is that it will cause you to be not informed enough to build an own opinion which MAY lead to indifference towards what's happening or simply uncapability to react to what's happening. Not to offend anyone but the opportunity to inform your self is one of our highest values in what we call the western hemisphere. The reason we can call our self civilized and independent individuals within people controlled democracies is based on the fact that we are well tought and be able to teach and inform our selves further. If we don't use this abbility we will quickly fall back into the dependence of leaders and mis-leaders and demagogues and soon lose the abbility and possibility to inform and teach ourselves. That's what you call the beginning of a dictatorship or despotism. That's why you should watch the news, read as many sources as possible and try to be informed on historical and current events and theyr connections. To understand and react to what's happening and stay a self-determinated individual. Even if your blood-pressure rises, keeping an eye on and naming what's wrong in the world is one of the easiest but most important forms of civial courage.

no. this statement is wrong, and you're being incredibly patronizing here. while it's true that we are in the information age present day, it does not mean that everyone should watch neither the news nor keep one self updated. the lack of information per se will never cause a state to fall into despair, until the day where information is a currency (hint: it isn't today).

our western society has many flaws already, and you telling me that watching news will abolish all of this? bullshit. watching news won't make 1,000,000 americans wiser and not watching won't lead me to be ignorant. news isn't a reliable form of education as you express it, it is still only a source of information that varies vastly in triviality; it is still more a medium of entertainment above anything else (i don't think e.g. the georgian conflict is neither trivial nor entertaining).

i have traveled halfway across the globe in either direction, something that few people get to do in the lifetime. i've seen how these things carry on in real life rather than on a box or a piece of paper. i am currently in uni, where you learn a new way of thinking, above learning what subject you study; but most importantly, i am an abstract person (refer to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MBTI) and i can see how things happen and how they can evolve without being told so on beforehand. if anything i have, not through my education in school but my education in life, earned the right to not watch the news.

i dont think anyone declined the worth of such statements in media anywhere in this thread so far. i don't have a problem with people watching whatever; i have a problem watching it myself, solely based on that my blood pressure gets to an alarming high level whenever i watch what's going on in the world. i also do not like the unhealthy bias that some news agencies take onto themselves. also, tabloid papers piss me off since they tell people what they want to hear. it makes me sick and every time i read the headlines a small part of me dies inside.

If the media didn't report on it, people would be up in arms about its neglect. When they do, they accuse them of being fear mongers. It seems people often have two minds about this subject I can never quite figure out.

Personally, I want to know about all the horrible things that occur, if only for the sake of just knowing about it. May sound morbid, but it's certainly better than the alternative.

I can only hope such events take precedence over pointless shit like the Olympics.

    living vicariously, eh

Be neat if the 32,000 disgruntled hardcore diablo fans agreed to that with what we've been shown so far.

I'm pretty sure the game is being made for the other 8 million+ people who will be buying the game. Obviously you can't please everyone, but if you sell a shitload of units while trying then that is cool too .

that's the thing though. it seems many game companies these days make radical changes to their sequels rather than "staying true to their fans". if you make a game for the 8 million other people out there, why not just start a new franchise altogether? i mean, if you're going to remove the original fanbase as well, there's no need for a sequel, right?

save perhaps the worth of the franchise...

clearly the best logo is one that can say the most while being the simplest. as for sites, i reckon google shows just how effective a simple website can be.

hah, i wish. there is no incentive for the US to interfere here. if anyone was to enter this conflict for any reason at all, it'd be NATO (exluding the us), possibly forced by the UN as peacekeeping forces.

i'd say he deserved an oscar for that and i consider myself a harsh critic of basically everything. the small mumbles and twitches and the general feel he has put into the character is something you don't see in movies every day.

biggest flaw: near the sides of the display then pen flickers all around which is kind of annoying when you have important controls there. depending on your calibration you wont be able to open a hidden start menu (windows) or dock (mac os x).when it comes to the other stuff: the display is okay. it seems to be a little dark, but not too bad. the colors match my macbook pro displays colors really well. the pen works really good. feels as working on an intuos3 with a display you have a pivot point unter the display which is cool for rotating the display when it is flat on your desk. if you don't like this behavior you can put some rubber stamps underneath it BUT you can do this only once. this is a big fail imo. imo the cable from the converterbox to the actual device is pretty long. if you put it on your desk you will have too much wire on your desk. the pen that comes with the cintiq is basically an intuos3 standard pen. it comes with 3 extra default nibs, 1 spring nib and 1 stroke nib. also there seems to be a really small delay in drawing. usually you dont notice it, but if you wave around a scrollbar in firefox for example after a while you will see that it is delayed. probably i should make a video of that.

overall: the device is cool especially when you dont want to spend 2 grands while still having a cintiq. there are some technical flaws that you an live with or bypass with the calibration. i dont regret buying it since it is damn awesome to directly see what you are painting.

i give it a 4 of 5 points. if there will be an improved second generation you should probably get one of those. at the moment there is nothing confirmed about such a thing.

when was yours manufactured? mine is from feb 08 (says on the bottom i reckon)

in my opinion you don't need to make hard vertical surfaces at all. what i'd do would be to make a rising slope, to make it look like a hill, and somewhere along the top i'd noclip brushes, implying that the ground is too steep to climb further. needless to say, this approach requires that your player starts at a relative depth compared to the hill; however unlike a cliff, a hill looks more natural around plain landscape

i remember at one point there being a user made random event generator created by a user; he subsequently created a map where one of four objectives would be initiated at the level beginning. this was for goldsrc, though you could probably have a look in the anomalous materials on the verc boards... if it's still online.
