At least it sounds like some of it might clear up, from your last post. I can't imagine any marriage without a bump in the road, maybe it's just something that will pass? I like the general ideas people have posted here, but if nothing else, the entire idea of venting is helpful as well to relieve some of the internal psychological pressure.

Damn, I thought that Under The Dome was a one season deal, instead ends on a big cliffhanger and it's just by reading Wiki that I discovered a second season is already on-air. Apparently they want to run it for 5 seasons, but guess these things depend on the ratings

You can always read the book, it's only 1200 pages

I think most of us by now make games for mainly adults, and as such there really isn't a need for a moral filter as the onus for this is on the recipient. We create a product that people can use in whichever way they desire. What they do with it in their own living rooms or bedrooms should be none of our business whatsoever.

Mobo blew up. Now dealing with the petty bureaucracy that is RMA and warranty services.
Fuck.

Blackdog, I think you're missing an important point here: It's not the purpose of games to educate or discipline kids. Don't take the moral high ground expecting games to be anything but entertainment in their strictest form.
The argument with "kids just consuming" is a strawman, and even if this is the case when it comes to some kids, then it is the responsibility of parents to ensure that their kids can handle this. The argument makes no more sense than those religious types who want a ban on gay marriage just because they have to explain to their kids what being gay means. Our society is already filled to the brim with blame and pushed away responsibility, why the fuck would you ever want to enable or enforce more of this? If people have kids, they NEED to be responsible for them - not games, not any industry, not society as a whole. Even if said games have 'Machiavellian' F2P mechanics, these can be averted if parents take responsibility and make their kids understand what it is that the game is actually trying to do.
If people start doing this instead of blaming games or whatever else is currently the flavor of the month "problem" is, we'd have more people that would be able to think for themselves - instead of having labels on everything.

Slowly and steadily working myself up the ranks of solo mmr in dota2. 2600 to 3100 now, let's see how far I can take it before I plateau

I tried watching a few different episodes - something I'm not going to do again. You listed a fair few reasons for why it's not worth to bother with it in the first place. The show takes itself too serious to make up for all the cheesy bullshit it puts forward.

Beware Kokoz, the grass is always greener on the other side. The stories I've heard and some of the experiences I've had from iOS and general indie development have left me a less rose tinted impression of that part of the industry.
But I think that's true about every type of job or industry - everyone has their own problems, and you'll have to wager which problems are easier or harder for you personally to solve. Something that is soul crushing to you may not be so to another, etc.. I guess if nothing else works out in neither part of what you love to do, you can always just go solo and attempt to try your own hand at your passion.

I don't get how people can watch this. I cringe every time I see it. The acting is bad, the dialogue is cheesy. The enemies and story is like written by a 5 year old (except a 5 year old can actually tell a better story).

Chronicle was a great movie

Create the Kickstarter at the end of your marketing campaign, not in the beginning. Build up hype for as long as you can, have as much of the product ready before you kickstart. Those are lessons I got from a dear friend who successfully kickstarted his project.

Having kids is dangerous in that sense, because it restricts you heavily. I'd never even consider going into such a relationship before I knew I was where I wanted to be career wise.
That basically means you will never be able to have kids while in the games industry, as its so volatile. if you know you are where you want to be career wise, that is absolutely no guarantee that you are going to stay there for the next 18-20 years. Its not even guaranteed you'll stay there the 9 months you SO is pregnant. In fact, I can actually guarantee that if you are in the games industry you will not work at the same place for 20 years.
Out of curiosity; anyone know anyone that has been in the same job for the same company for 20 years in the games industry?
That's a very pessimistic perspective. I think if you stay open minded and work hard as well as expand your professional profile, you're much less likely to perish in the industry. Or even if you do get fired, at least make sure you can stay open minded enough to take an opportunity with another developer in a different country.
There's also a certain point to be made about the life outside work -- for instance, I could never enjoy life to the fullest if I had to live in Denmark forever. That's also why I know I won't stay here for any longer than I have to. But maybe if the living conditions were closer to what I expected from a country like this, I'd be more inclined to settle down here, regardless of possibilities.
In the end, we all want a certain stability in our lives, enough to actually live. But as changes are often inevitable, they will happen. It is then up to ourselves to make sure that our situation works best for us as individuals and as families. I know personally that someone who would want to be tied down to a specific part of the planet for whatever reasons wouldn't fare well with me in the first place -- and that is a choice I make.

While looking at this thread I was really thinking, "Does the world need another UT after UT3?"
But I gotta say if they're doing the process this openly, as well as adding interesting features (such as the wall slide), I could see it happening.

And I am not creating games I want to play. Last I did that was with warby. warby made me believe in his game vision. And I was excited to put in 16 hours a da to make it happen. And lately, I've come to terms with the fact that since I have a responsibility to my wife and two kids, I can't move abroad and get a job at the two places who makes games I want to make. Valve or Blizzard.
But who am I kidding, I could never get a job at valve. Maybe blizzard... But my wife would never let us move.
meh.. If the company I work for now also folds, then I will probably have to make a huge life decision...

I think one solution to the AI problem may be to make sure the AI has goals that are permanent and unchangeable. I'm not saying it'll last forever or that the AI won't be able to change this at some point, but maybe it'll change behavior for long enough to make use of it. But yes, the technological singularity is a huge liability on the grandest scale. It won't likely cause any disasters, but it will shift society far away from what we have now.
Who knows, it may even have beneficial effects as well. It'll be like a neutral god being able to judge all in society.
