But seriously, do people like/dislike the simple, but descriptive; Annha's Adventure ?http://www.annhasadventure.com/

    i think it's too modest

How about, "Holy shit, flying pirates!" ?

anything with holy shit in the title receives my stamp of approval

but seriously, i have to agree with campaignjunkie and rick: it sounds bland. while i think campaignjunkie got the syntax problem right, i'd also like to point to the moral you're about to tell. if we take the example of sins of a solar empire, you already have a good base to start your story: you have a solar empire, committing sins (arguably). this is good, because not only do you have a moral here, but you force the reader/player to question, "what is sin?"

okay maybe not everyone will ask themselves that question while playing the game, but then again you'd probably not see xbox 360 frat boys playing it relentlessly.

a more simple example is a title such as "left 4 dead". you quickly connote associations to this. apparently there are some people isolated with no immediate signs of rescue, and there are four of them.

by contrast, pirates of new horizons tells almost nothing involving about the story, or the situation that is going on. since there's apparently flying involved, why not make that a part of the title? i'm sure you could make a pun on leviathan and levitation somewhere, or something equally catchy.

if not, you could always just use this: http://noemata.net/pa/titlegen/

oh and congrats on getting this far!

Maybe you're not communicating your point properly. What it sounds like you're saying is that companies embracing tenants that are considered good design philosophies of games being easy to pick up, hard to master, is making games too casual. Additionally, Yahtzee is not a good example to back up your argument, especially when he's just going on a tangent about motion controls.

the motion controls were exactly my point in that video. i mean, what other icon symbolizes casualisation better? you'll never see motion controls for the PC, because it's a niche market (i.e., a market specialized for people with certain limited interest, the largest of these being indie and seriously competitive games), and those same people aren't interested in casual outings (not to mention the bother of physically setting it up). in addition to that (apart from console to PC ports or multiple platform releases), things such as usability and learning curve are much more emphasizes on console than on PC.

the console is mainstream now; PC mainstream gaming is dead. so for people to buy PC games you'll have to appeal to things that are not available elsewhere, i.e. niches. and what people don't understand is that these niches are actually thriving despite the commercial successes of the different consoles, because they're not in direct competition with each other.

It's all part of Activision's plan. Apparently their plan is not to earn revenue on the games they fund.

While DotA really is the modern-day chess, totally not WC3 with the RTS removed, played predominately by PhD graduates looking for intellectual stimulant, and would turn the average console gamers mind into putty - casual putty - it's hardly 'flourishing.'

    statistics prove you wrong.

i think it's safe to say it is much more niche than it used to be. this is because the consoles (and their control systems) casualized gaming, leaving the PC as a more unstable or unsuitable platform. the only games that are thriving on the PC are those that would be impossible to play on consoles.

    Oh, it's this post.

Console games have got simpler with this generation too, which I guess could be some kind of inverse consolization that people haven't picked a term for yet, or a slight hint that this is nonsense. The games industry itself has decided to start aiming at a broader market, this is not because consoles came along with some new casual chip that simplifies any game that appears on them. You’ll also notice the most successful games on PC are on facebook and flash portals, unless that's the Dualshocks fault too.

i'm getting a feeling you'r either misunderstanding my post or disagreeing deliberately. i'm not saying console games are simple, i am saying they have become more casual; their mechanics are clear cut in comparison to what i know of the titles flourishing on the PC (take for instance something such as dota).

    EDIT:

i think this explains what i mean nicely.

I would wager that anyone who uses ZP to decide if they should buy a game or not has already made up their mind and simply uses it as justification to the internet. Not that the internet particularly cares.

i don't get why people are so hostile towards something that combines comedy and review. sometimes when i've bought and completed a game, i would tune in to ZP to find the exact same complaints about said game that i had myself.
