but yeah, what skjalg said basically. i reckon in a decade we'll go completely away from the notion that you find girl/boyfriends at bars, and maybe even one night stands too. a friend of mine told me this recently: "why would you go pick up someone on a friday, when you're drunk? you don't get any real pleasure out of it, and chances are you won't remember what happened the next morning." i gotta say i think he's right.

We're just going to have to wait and see I guess.

isn't that pretty much how it goes down with every game?

from the first clips to now there seems to have a progression into a darker mood, which i think is perfect. the sand levels really remind me of act 2 of diablo 2 (which, incidentally were my favorite part of the game). not so sure about the classes though... what happened to just calling them what they were before? i don't really see how a witch doctor is something you'd see in every camp, village or town.

    Ouch Sega, ouch!

visually, it's stunning. the amount of details is really impressing, as is the fact it's done with the unity engine. but gameplay wise, well, there isn't any... so you run around, and around and around. where is the challenge? there aren't any puzzles, there aren't any dangerous monsters or anything like that. i'd play it to death if the difficulty was actually on par with the first sonic game, and if it had levels that challenged you to pretty much near death experiences all the time. they nailed the visuals perfectly, but they still have that one thing missing.

also it beats the shit out of the mushroom zone one, since it's goddamn playable (even with whatever is left of any gameplay).

I like Jon Hamm in madmen but he would make a really bland superman. They need to change the superman formula up. At this point I would rather see superman as a 18 year old hipster than another square jawed stoic manly man. I know that goes contrary to the roots of the comic but who cares. Superman has become the action template for so many more interesting contemporary characters that I can't imagine what they're going to do that wont be expected. Oh, I know, turn it into a masturbatory CG-fest.

They need to find a Robert Downey Jr. for Superman and I'm afraid there aren't enough drugs or hookers in the world to make that possible.

pretty much summed it up. with superman being the actual template on which other superheroes are based on, he's going to be extremely bland in comparison with those heroes based on him.

isn't this just more for the "shock value" or "art statement" than for making an actual movie?

Mapcore, a gaming forum, Gears of War User Maps forum, Facebook, and Kotaku. Feel like an intervention is needed some days.

similar to this, except that i don't visit kotaku ever (unless someone links something) and i don't have an interest in gears of war maps. i sometimes visit the escapist for the zero punctuation, but in general i think the site is sub par. i was once thinking of just having a rss feed set up, but then i realized i didn't care enough about most gaming news. mapcore seems to be up to date for the most part, and that's pretty much enough for me.

I totally agree about how frustrating managers who aren't developers can be.

Ugh, I'm getting that right now with a client for one of my freelance gigs. He doesn't really understand the process of building a model and keeps asking for changes upon changes upon changes. Sometimes those changes affect another part of the model, then I end up having to changed that, or he asks for a change, then changes his mind, etc. So frustrating. Never worked with someone as picky or difficult as that =0.

I think this just comes with freelancing and you have to accept it as part of the job. If you are so high profile that you can drop a client and always have another one lined up then that's great but not the position most of us are in. My experience is that often people request changes without thinking about how much time it will take because there usually isn't a personal relationship at stake and they don't have to look you in the face when they take a bunch more of your time without added compensation. Anyway, get your contracts written with some sort of reasonable number of revisions section and ideally something that says no unreasonable changes to the design after a certain point.

it's a good point with the revision numbers and no-further-changes point; i think those are perhaps the most important point for any freelance (apart from the payment). also i was not saying that you should ditch each and every client that wants changes done, but there is a point where the money does not become worth the effort; and it's at that point you should put your foot down. i understand that some clients can even realize this themselves.
