man. why are you guys freaking out so much.create an empty map file. copy and paste parts of the broken map to the clean vmf file. save. an load it. look. if it works. copy some more.

What a genius ! *Copying the first ten lines* DOH ! It doesn't work !

Yeah, in fact if I you take the time to look at the file, everything seems corrupted, from line 1 to line 9437.

Either it's corrupted, or it's another map format.

By the way, if 9437 lines is everything that survived after the crash, it's not good news. The smallest of my map composed of one room and 16 water brushes is 4000 lines long.. I guess this is indeed another map format.

Wtf with this file ? This is not a .VMF, this is not a .RMF, this is not a .MAP. But inside, there's references to a source map (the skyname for example).. So what did you do with it XD ? Its seems kinda serious because there's a 500 lines func_detail at the end of the file.. I should'nt be nowhere near that large.

This error happends because (most of the time) you used a forbidden caracter in one of your entities (like ", ', {, } or anything symbol related) or Hammer crashed during saving. Now your only way to fix that is to open up the VMF file with a text editor and try to find the lines were it starts to be messed up (shifts in the '{}' system usually).

I you still don't manage to fix it, I could help you with that. It happened to me a lot of time.

This third was the worst of the trilogy, by far.

Too much violence, too much cliché, too much patriotism, too much bad guys, too much love, too much discontinued, too much everything. The film isn't bad afterall, but this is surely not a work of art. I was barely sleeping at the end.

No no, I just wanted to say that it looks like the same.

In fact, I don't really know if it's the case or not.

And de facto, it's not that important, the map looks good.

Now come on, you of all people aren't going to tell me that'd bring performance down...You know better than that

Moroes, that's cool, but I'd try to add some more faces to the hangars, the edges are really showing right now, and smoother angles would be totally worth it

Agreed, but his map seems to be a "total open space".

I don't think he has the possibility to extra-detail stuff if he wants to keep framerate high.

Interesting idea for gameplay. This trailer was probably enough to get me buying this game already

I know this feeling, it's the same for me with Crysis and the possibility to break trees down. I feel like a logger inside.. yum.

In fact, Hammer once had a "3D Lightning Preview View". Valve released it by error some months ago (or maybe a year, I don't remember), it was tricky and bugged, but this proves that they're actually trying to implement it. Unfortunately, they trashed it away with another update few days later.. the lighting preview AND the SO awesome Logical View.

Never knew why they trashed this logical view, this was kind of a chart of all the relations between entities in the map. Like an electronic chart and you could edit everything with few clicks.. Such a shame that they never released it, because it actually WORKED very well.

It's not *THAT* hardcore I guess...

When you see how that kind of thing is implemented in the Source Engine, you just laught a lot. This is something that can be done, but it's tricky and mainly just a hack. When I see displacement morphing in real time, that's something that reminds me of Red Faction and it's unique feeling. Never understood why noone ever pushed the Geo-Mod concept further.

don't listen to them at all! I think it's great.

Should I ask why my opinion has less interest than your's ?

I've seen a lots of maps under the HL1's engine that were more detailled than this one.. so yes, it lacks details.

It doesn't mean that the map is crap or whatever, just that there's an urgent need for little things like stains on the walls, lamps for some lightsources, decals on the ground, and so on. The whole thing looks too bland (but this has been already said).

At first, I though it was a HL 1 map..

You really need to detail the whole thing and stop using brushes for everything.
