I never thought I would manage to export something to HL2 but thanks to generalvivi I did. Please note that this is just a test to see how source renders the model ingame and nothing final (for instance, specularity is 100% for mere testing purposes) And again, don't mind the forehead!

    Thanks for a quick reply

    Tried that, didn't work.

Could anyone explain why my 3D viewport in hammer is all black? And why don't specular and normal maps work in HLMV on particular models anymore?

Very nice. I love the air plane detail in the skybox.

Take another look - maybe your screen is too dark for you to see?

Nice start! The face does however look stretched, like someone would have pulled the cheeks back or something. Easy fixes, so just keep it up!

Sad to see that no one is posting in this thread, hehe, oh well... I could fire things up with some quite old pieces of mine (I have evolved, hopefully ), first one being a little bit over a year old and the second one being done when I was 15 years old.

Thanks! Hm, not at this moment, it's kind of secret as of yet. I'll check with someone to see if it's alright to at least post model viewer shots, so I will get back to you on that!

Really (really, really) nice work OrnateBaboon, I have been following this for some time now. My only critisism would be to tone down the HDR exposure a bit, it is way too much as is. Subtle > in-your-face

Hey Hessi, thanks but I'm a boy. Haha Cool though, I'll take it as a compliment. Yeah, I would have agreed with you if it wasn't for the fact that they were down sized (hence a bit more unsharp/undetailed). But thanks for the constructive critisism!

Oh nice thread, I did quite a few of these a long time ago (when HL2 was first released). Here's a couple of them:

Nice shadowing/highlighting, JonM! Fun to see that you doodle alot. I wish I was as active, these are my first serious drawings in years (the digital art took over in a way, I'm trying to pick the "traditional" art up again though ):

    Does traditional 2D art count?

    Quote from von*ferret

looks remarkable. Did you use the flashlight and photo technique?

Yes, basically I am however developing a normal mapping tripod that I use with a fixated camera and rotatable strong but intentisity-adjustable light source for optimal results (saves alot of editing time later). And thanks!

I like the design generalvivi, looks comfy And CyanideCotdPnuts, your skin is really coming along now and it's a nice model too.

I had a rough time making my mind up where to post this but it ended up here. The reason for this is that I'm not really a modeler (heh, this model is done in MilkShape3D, does that even count? ); the model is more for experimenting with the textures I'm working with. The diffuse map is not very interesting but I've been fiddling with new normal mapping techniques that produces photo-realistic results. Now, this render is very cheap but I think it shows off the normal map pretty well (bare in mind that this is a rather low poly model). When I'm happy with the textures I will start with making a subsurface scattering shader for it to make it look a bit more true to reality.

(Don't mind the forehead, hair will go there eventually)

And part of the normal map:

    [Blocked Image: http://img105.imageshack.us/img105/5993/partofthenormalmaplk2.jpg]

It's [the overall result] in pretty early stages right now (still not remarkably photo realistic) but I think it's coming along. I'll post updates when I have them and if people are interested
