From the looks of your screenshot, that's because your computer isn't very good.

  • Hammer Editor (Importing Models problem)

    • October 10, 2007 at 12:53 AM

I'm trying to import a model into my level, but for some reason Hammer keeps crashing whenever I try to view it in the built in model browser:

    [Blocked Image: http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/1825/errorlz0.jpg]

As you can see, it's fine in the model viewer. But in Hammer, it just crashes. I have no idea what's causing this - but I figure someone here might have come across the same problem. Any help is appreciated!

It's a shame you had to come to compromises with the Source Engine, but the map looks brilliant non-the-less. The detail is fantastic, and it plays well too.

    Shot-By-Shot crits.

(I just realised I missed one out - but on the second to last replace that slope with steps.)

I've shown some specific points - but what it boils down to is that the rooms are empty and just filled with random props to try and fill it out. Avoid doing that. Make the rooms have a purpose - I don't know where on earth they actually make things in this factory.

The main thing you should do is study reference pictures of real factories. Because your map doesn't look like one at all.

hrm why? 6000 isn't much and the details are where they should be, wheels should be as round as possible if they are big and will be at the players eye-level, the frame shape is simple but it looks smooth and 'right' and has all the detail it needs. wtf are you guys on about. it's a nice clean mesh.

He was probably talking about this:

Anything by Alex Brandon, i.e Unreal, Deus Ex etc.

I've forgotten the link to where you can download the soundtrack to both Deus Ex games though. Although it includes tracks for Kidney Thieves (NG Resonance in Invsible War) so technically that'd be illegal.

Quakis, I'd recommend using another smoothing group on the inward part of the base. Whenever you have something like that it looks better to use a seperate group so it adds an edge to it, rather than awkwardly "rounding" it like it is now. Plus, put a skylight with shadows on for rendering - it looks much better . Otherwise it looks alright.

My WIP AR/SC70 mix - 4,647 polys with a 2048X1024 texture. The animations it's compiled on are by Jennifer!! but they don't work at all (buggy, and don't fit the weapon).

I like 3d Studio Max, that's all. I don't see any reason to go to a limited mod tool of another product when it doesn't do anything better.

All of you who are saying that your current internet lines won't be enough in some years when games start taking up 50 gigs. Well, I think you are forgetting the fact that odds are that internet connection speeds will also go up.

But as connection speeds go up, so does the size of games. But internet connection speeds depend on the basic wiring of the country. Broadband is possible with standard phone lines at the moment, but anything further isn't. It's going to be a while until it catches up with the increasing game sizes.
