Guys, the demo only includes half-res textures to keep the filesize down, the textures in the full game will mostly be 2048x2048 beasts. D:

although there is texture streaming after spawning the camera
Yeah, it seems they're loading and unloading stuff very often to optimize load times and memory usage. You can actually see the enforcerer without any hand model when spawning, it gets loaded 2-3 seconds after spawning.

Could be a slow HDD or a bad combination or type of RAM (you have a Pentium D after all). There's no other explanation. Loading times are fine if not a bit better than on UT2k4 for me - with less RAM, a slower graphics card.

I don't really know why everyone is so negative about it
The new weapon designs are kind of awkward, indeed, but still cool. The maps are well made and I find it actually pretty impressive how much they squeezed out of the engine without overloading it with a whole bunch of shaders and other features like Crysis did (dirty repeating normalmap noise pattern ftw). I like the style of the included maps - a bit tech/sci-fi, a bit urban stuff, and of course everything as dirty as possible
I was very sceptical about the removed Translactor and double dodge, since I actually liked UT2k4 more than UT99. And I didn't expect too much from the weapon balancing. But when I played it for an hour or so, all my doubts disappeared. I like the new weapon balancing. The alt-fire of the minigun isn't obsolete anymore. The rocket launcher's snapping time is shorter. Movement is pretty nice, too. I personally like it and I'm glad that I've pre-ordered it

It's soooo freaking awesome
The demo is really worth its size, and the retail version will sure be worth its money

Does this mean that Mass Effect is going to suck, too?

In my opinion valve could pull a really interesting plot twist from now on. We already know that Gordon is going to rescue something from Aperture Science in EP3, well what if in Portal 2 (if they do make one) you also have to rescue that equipment in a race against Gordon? You could see Gordon, and fight him (gravity gun vs portal gun would be interesting), and you get two games with two different characters, which have both the same objective but work for different factions.I hope they do something like this

Watch for Valve! They'll steal your idea!

The world doesn't only consist of rich gaming enthusiasts and developers who are willing and able to spend money on high end hardware
you'right, obviously. But the people that buy games consists highly of those two.
Sure, but lots of people still don't have enough money to enjoy Crysis at a high level

Why would people want to buy a direct x 10 PC if they were going to play direct x 9 games with it?

Youtube video and audio quality sucks, use Stage6 instead!
I'm terribly sorry, but there's no way to use Stage 6 under Linux (is there one under OS X?)
