Yay, that asian level is the one my company worked on. I think you can see one of the pillars I textured in the background

Yeah its a bit strange, I mean seriously the artwork here is mega incredible. Much more advanced then what was done with gears but argh you just don't notice it with these screenshots! I bet even when playing it they don't look that great as you're running past everything a million mph!

I second everything Warby said, and yeah, I tryed to remove all this blur filter thing, and one can't do it, at least in the demo!

too much Nextgen'ness for my taste, but yrah, looks nice, plays nice.

More post proc options can be found in the inis. So if you want to dump the bloom and dof..

If you want to rebind the tab key = inis.

Imo this is Gears Of War Tournament, weapons aside, this has nothing to do with Unreal anymore. Its as gray, desaturated and techy as GOW where as Unreal meant warmth, mystery and atmosphere.

Unreal means colors, spaceships, aztec temples, castles, caves, and so on. Not gray cities and asian buildings.

Movement is great, as are the weapons, and both have the classic UT feeling again. However everything else is entirely new so it feels very contradicting. On one hand it tries to be the old game, on the other hand it also tries to be something entirely new. Either its this or that but not both imo.

I also agree that lighting is really bad, often non existant apart from a sunlight actor, and almost always very white. Also goes for the post processing but you can turn that off so thats ok.

I also think the game has a huge console feeling to it. Im playing a console port! The interface, hud, even the look of the levels with all the PP make me feel as if Im playing a game on the Xbox.

Same design as the first UT, which imo is very boring. A lot of rushed content to go with some stuff that looks really nice, making the overall view look untight. Zelda Twilight Princess still looks better with no normal maps.

Go to (where XXX is your Windows account name)

    G:\Documents and Settings\XXX\My Documents\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3 Demo\UTGame\Config\

open up UTEngine.ini and set DepthOfField and Bloom to False. DOF makes the biggest difference.

Also, I have to agree with Hourences (once more ), that level design needs work, especially lighting. I found some aspects that really puzzled me, such as "detail normal maps" or something, which are completely unnecessary, but on the other hand there's not enough specular/reflection effects on textures (especially floor), making the world look too static. I booted up ETQW again just for comparison and my god QW freaking rapes UT3 as far as lighting is concerned.

Oh, anyone managed to find the editor yet or something?

You have to increase the "screen" thingey... whatever it is.

(But DoF sucks as well... most of the time)

if I had an awesome system I might be inclined to agree with you.. gameplay was fun and I guess that's all you could hope for...

like to see the retail game's maps to see if they're any better. not really into this look as others have said.

I decided that I wanted humiliate my home computer once more and installed the demo. I could actually crank it up quite a lot (medium details that is) and still have a framerate somewhat over 20fps, so thats not bad, didn't look very good anyway though, kinda 16bit lighting all over the place.

However I'm probably alone in thinking this, but the weapons and gameplay just isn't that well put together in this one. I mean that main thing that UT has to get right is the maps (They're pretty good) and the weapons, and all the weapon designs just felt really weak to me in this one. The only one that almost reached its former glory was the rocket launcher, maybe also the link gun, but everything else just feels so weak when you're firing them. I still don't get why they changed the UT99 Enforcer. They change it every fucking time, and it just gets worse with each iteration. And whats up with the minigun? What the fuck!??! Looks like something somebody duct taped behind a dumpster instead a cool killing machine. Bah, maybe its just me but I just thoroughly dislike the entire style of this UT. I totally agree with Hourences, in that it looks good but at this point it just looks like Gears of Tournament.

Maybe I'm just looking too much for them to replicate the exact nostalgic feeling I have with the first UT, silly me

Anyway, might get it if its cheap enough for PC, just to fuck around with the tools
