Well, I would argue that Fahrenheit was at least a bit innovative (even if similar games had been done in the past). I haven't played through Heavy Rain due to a distinct lack of ps3 ( ) but after trying it at a friend's house I got the impression that it relies too heavily on shallow QTE-mechanics where as Fahrenheit occasionally had "real" gameplay and problem-solving thrown into the mix which made for a decent adventure-type game. In my view, it didn't feel like Heavy Rain took a step foward but rather took a step backward. Sure, it's gleaming with AAA production values and shit but at it's core it feels like a more cinematic and "emotional", but less innovative and less "gamey", version of Fahrenheit. And Fahrenheit barely passed as a game.

On a side note, I've read through the Heavy Rain story. And man... that script is so full of shit.

Her outfit in the medical center... jesus h christ that was retarded. Dev-team boners ftw.

Though, I prefer Jack tbh. Completely apeshit, completely loveable.

I can't deny it, I actually liked Fahrenheit back in the day... it was ridiculous and stupid, but still compelling somehow.

Maybe it was the sex scenes.

Well, I haven't been so lucky then. In my experience, it's hit-or-miss when it comes to audio clarity. And even when it sounds good, it's just an okay:ish substitute for a solid, standalone voip program (and those aren't tied to a particular game). I mean, I don't go around complaining about the built-in VOIP nor do I demand that DICE fixes it; I was just mentioning what I thought of it since JeanPaul brought it up.

Well, there's the party voip that works like crap. Don't think there are any plans to extend that into ingame voip if that's what you mean.

It isn't a highly requested feature really. Get your mates on a Mumble server and enjoy.

    Shooting-people-in-the-face-expert, if I may.

After thousands of extreme close quarter engagements (3> meters), you come to realize that the mild problems with hit detection that Battlefield 3 has are worsened in those types of situations. It's simple really, any discrepancy between where you view a player on your client and where the player REALLY is (according to the game) is more noticeable because you're so close.

And while the video posted in the thread doesn't look all that interesting, I'm still not dismissing this expansion pack of course. My concern is that, while Metro is a pretty good rush/cq map, the focus here looks to be on an almost TDM:ish layout and the gameplay that comes with that. Still, there's another three (?) maps to be shown so I'm hoping that DICE proves me wrong!

Saw a video of a new map in action and it didn't look too interesting unfortunately. BF3 hit detection and net code doesn't do well in close quarters. I can see the balance woes from miles away too.

I'm hoping some of the new weapons will add some flavour though.

true dat! unfortunately i really don't have time to get really skilled at this game. i remember when i started playing counterstrike (11 years ago!), saving the map overviews and studying them for tactical purposes, feeling frustrated for every non-headshot kill i didn't make... i play mw2 like an arcade game, maximum 2 hours at a time, shared with 2 friends, mostly. i guess i just want my brain satisfied..

    nothing wrong with that

Hmm, I think I've read both those articles earlier and I couldn't make out any conclusive evidence.

I think the move makes a lot of sense and I think that they have something like this in the works, but so far I haven't seen anything that really sold the fact that they are committing to this. Am I just missing something?

Regardless... give the console market hell Valve!

smartass. of course there's a challenge in defeating other players but unlocking weapons, perks and whatnot makes playing the game a hell of lot more rewarding. i'm sure you know what i mean

Sure, unlocking stuff is pure "brain reward center"-fun and in a game with a lot of weapons, it creates some sort of nice weapon-pacing for multiplayer. But mostly, I just want the unlocking over and done with ASAP. I find more joy in having a game's full arsenal at my disposal and playing around with different weapon- and class setups and trying to find my favourite combos. I haven't unlocked a BF3 weapon in months but I'm still coming back for more. Primarily because clan games are fun and challenging as fuck and really improves your skills drastically. That's where I want my challenge.

so apparently i played cod: mw2 on a hacked server, instantly making me lvl 70. this leaves me with almost no challenge. lucky for me, i only play this game with 3 friends (4 if you add my gf who's getting ridiculously skilled) so it lost little replay value to me, but still. lot's of 12 year old aimbot users... too bad, because it's a solid game. also, wtf man, no zombie mode??? fuck!

Yes, it's the unlocks that should provide the challenge and not the enemy players.

Have fun with your chopper gunners in MW2.
