the DS is a flagship for piracy. there's literally shops selling flashcards. they have collectors edition tins and everything. i shit you not.
anyway, as i said i don't think piracy is the factor here, the fact that IW want control of the experience is more likely, much like battlenet (we all know how well NO LAN is going down too).
i am waiting for an explanation from someone, this wasn't a big announcement just a sidenote on a podcast, right? so surely there's more to it than has been let on.
will it be like Americas Army where you had to license an official honour server at $80 a month for the priveledge of having a message of the day and control over the map list?
will pc be using p2p, or connecting to dedicated servers like l4d.
there is a lot we don't know (or at least i don;t know, anyoen want to fill me in? :S), frie is right about jumping to conclusions.
although after seeing the chaos on the IW forums you would have thought someone somewhere would be thinking about making a statement?

i think the main reason is the fact they can control everything. load up the game, big splash screen showing you the latest dlc, all servers playing with settings devised by the devs, making it super user friendly (selecting a multiplayer game no longer becomes a search through a server list but simply a single click to join a lobby and then the wait).
i am sure IW want to control the experience to draw in new customers onto the PC, which is currently the weakest seller (and i don't believe that is due to piracy).
the problem with that, is i know i, and many others, have played games where custom content, server mods and so on have actually extended the life of a product, increased the fun, and encouraged you to purchase other games by the developer.
IW have taken a pretty huge u-turn on the whole custom content thing. going from releasing an sdk which many thousands of people played with (even though it's fucking radiant lol..), to simply removing _any_ customising abilty at all.
i would still love to hear the reasons behind it. they did so many other good things, vac instead of pb, full steam integration, and the list is actually quite long of all the thigns that they have made big improvements on.. but to simply remove the ability for people to customise the game?
what does this mean for competitive play? i don't mean tournaments, just simple ladders online as so forth.
counterstrike 1.6/source would be quite bad if played using the default valve config. the fact that so much is open to the end user, allowing people to tailor the game towards different groups of people is a major factor in extending the life of the game.
personally i don't think any of these factored into the decision, it is simply about money - and that is great, but it also means a lot of people won't be buying the game at all because it lacks the things that make it worth paying for, and playing again and again.
i am looking forward to, and have been hyped for the SP and coop campaigns for a long time, i am really looking forward to seeing what IW have done, i have faith that it'll be of the highest quality

i would actually prefer it if they sold SP/coop and MP seperately. take the time to make the MP a good experience. i mean it is already launched through a different .exe (since cod1 lol) so why not make them seperate packages.
or how about game companies stop making retarded decisions. it really feels like the industry is going backwards at times.
we had the option of branching off towards a film industry route, but i think we swerved away from that and have ended up in a kind of nike sweatshop, pumping out shit for the sake of money alone.

Oh cool, 8 screenshots from my map!
Not always from the best angle, but still cool. Thanks for sharing!most frustrating part of the game for me. could not figure out where the fuck to go, and having those fucking monsters flying at you constantly while you tried to figure out wtf to do was annoying

To be honest then I think its a miracle that anyone doing games where the majority of their sales come from consoles can be bothered with porting them to PC anymore. Although probably hard to really prove anything, then I think the general trend is that a lot of hardcore gamers with a decent rig will always pirate the games they can on PC and only buy the console exclusives because they're forced to it.Then again, there's still a market there, especially for something such as MW2, question being if you'd get more legit people than you'd lose by doing a PC version

no. bullshit. i am calling bullshit on this right now.
people cry and bitch about piracy but you know what: it is nowhere near as bad as you think it is.
i bought two copies of kayne and lynch (pc and 360 - pc version wouldn't get past the first menu screen) and if there was a game that could have been pirated, it was that.
i own two copies of cod4 (dif steam accounts, one for friends who don't have DAT DOLLA).
i have pirated games sure, but i have BOUGHT more games than i have ever stolen.
http://www.steamcalculator.com/id/rick_d
Account value: $1142.51
and i have multiple steam accounts.
so bullshit, PC gamers are not fucking dirty thieves, they don't steal everything they can. when something is of too poor quality and too high a price, then people will pirate it regardless of platform, it just so happens that it is easier to do it on the PC, because it's been going a lot longer.
It is hard to get legitimate figures about piracy, because of the nature of it, but MW1 has sold in excess of 13 million copies. On PC nearly 400,000 from north american retailers alone (not including steam, or the rest of the world).
The last number I saw on piracy was 90,000 leechers across the many trackers.
I think piracy is just an excuse to not bother with PC versions considering console versions sell much much more.

hey bros what's happening in this thread?
yeah shit on my face and spin me around with a dick in my ass. MW2 went from my most-anticipated to oh-boy-i-am-not-paying-for-this-shit.
what is going to happen to communities, to people playing regularly in servers, what will happen to the "fun clans" consisting of people who slap on a tag and pub in their own servers with friends old and new alike?
what will happen to choosing your own game mode and preferences, to joining servers half-way through a game?
CoD has been a PC game from the start, supported in massive numbers by the community, CoD2 has hundreds of mods still being worked on, people still play it competitively.. did we as PC gamers offend someone high up so much that we are now being given second-hand console bullshit? who raped koticks wife? come on, own up.
any IW bros want to comment on what happened in the decision making process to allow it to get into this state, are you allowed to? are we all taking it out of context, and has the guy made a huge error in describing the system? say it isn't so guys!
with no decent multiplayer i see no real reason to purchase the game. maybe i'll buy it second hand in a month or two when the price has gone down to 20 quid.
also, 60 dollars lol? you out of your fucking minds?

I think it's a little disrespectful to be talking about downloading the game when ComposiTe posts here
Just to touch on this; I don't think it matters WHO posts here, we should not condone pirating games. Piracy is not the big bad guy it is made out to be, I think bad marketing accounts for more loss than piracy but that is another discussion.
I will definately be buying MW2, look at it. It is fucking dripping in quality. The SP story looks mondblowingly good. Along with a co-op side story? Fuck yes sign me up for that shit mother fucker.
And on top of that, a multiplayer which is rivalled in quality, features, and replayability by a very few number of games.
IW have reached a fucking great point in their lifetime and even though they're taking the fucking piss when it comes to pricing the game (I'm sure this is more down to Activision, I hope..) I'll be buying this the second I can; and I haven't even pre-ordered L4D2 yet ;D

wait, what is the problem there?
also lol at still playing the demo?

It's source.
I know, I'm just saying the bros on page 1 thinking that it could in any way be HL1 are mistaken!

There is no way that is HL1 bros. You're looking back at it with rose tinted glasses.

Hey I never said I was not a hypocrite.
Just that I won't avoid a game because of regenerating health. Same as I won't avoid a game because it stars a bald space marine. The game itself might be fantastic, regardless of some of the mechanics they've used.
I'm also not saying I'm right., it's just my opinion

You know what I hate?
Running around picking things up in an online shooter.
I don't want to spawn with no guns, I don't want to have to hunt down medipacks. Fuck you, give me everything at once.
Yeah I enjoyed the old way that games did things. But I enjoyed them then. Can we as an industry move forward and at least TRY some new ideas instead of shitting on them from the start.
I never noticed anything wrong with CoD4's regenerating health. But then I play on hardcore servers where the game is actually fun. And surviving a firefight comes down to not getting hit in the first place.
Remember in thos eold realism shooters where getting hit made you move really slow, or fucked up your aim. And you sat there bleeding to death praying you could die so you would respawn with a fresh dude? Yeah that was bullshit and it's a good thing that shit is dying out. If it's not fun then fucking get rid of it.
