I don't want to be a whiny bitch but there seems to be a lot of architecture just for the sake of architecture with no real reason or logic behind it. Some of the stuff doesn't even make a lot of sense. It may be futuristic but I think it's always good to say to yourself "why would this be here, what purpose does it serve in the overall context - and how would it be constructed if it existed in the real world, alien, futuristic or not".

The leaves on the stairs in what looks like a completely enclosed area is odd too - if it is connected directly to the outside maybe you could have used lighting to show that.

I don't understand the point of marketing a console towards adults (and not just kids) and then not supporting AO titles. As for retailers you'll be hard pressed to find a major chain that will sell18 games to minors as the legal consequences wouldn't be worth their time. I even remember an independent store around here that shied away from selling them to minors because they'd get closed down, instead of just lumbered with a fine and some bad publicity.

I wonder what the next game 'banned' will be? CoD4 for portraying war as an arcadey good-time party experience?

Interesting reviews but I would imagine it would only appeal to those gamers that liked that kind of thing in the first place.

I used to enjoy games like this on the megadrive but now I feel I want something more to spend my time on.

An interesting point, but I would say things hit a peak at the end of the 90's and are going to retract in on themselves as the media and more powerful groups push for things to be censored to protect us silly public who can't be trusted to make decisions.

@ friechamp - the problem with letting the powers-that-be decide what is right and wrong for us is that, just like the religious leaders before them, they are easily pushed in a certain direction from outside forces.

I don't even know if there is a gamers lobbyist group that lobbies the governments etc. The UK has a massive amount of game developers here, and to start having the government tell people what they can and can't do to entertain themselves in their own homes is disgusting and offensive. We're being treated like children - it's not surprising really when you look at our societies, kids running wild, violent assault and murder are up - yet we're not going to look at or blame the poor parenting, we're going to punish the middle classes who work on and play the majority of computer games.

GTA1 was outrageous at it's time, it got discussed in parliament (as much as a bunch of out-of-touch old perverts can discuss video games) but even that wasn't banned.

Who's to say that some pressure group have been involved in getting manhunt2 banned? Why was the first one allowed through? You suffocated people with plastic bags, cut throats, used chainsaws to sever limbs, used guns in gunning down massive amounts of 'people' yet now all of a sudden (after yet another school shooting..) it's not acceptable?

I don't think he's talking about smoothing groups.. you just have a massive amount of wasted polygons where you could get away with far less - look at the underside, on that box thing, you split it into 4 sections where only really need 1. You have edge loops continuing through the mesh that should have ended when they had finished adding the detail to their intended areas.

I think saying "I'll clean it up later" is bad for you, you should be keeping the mesh clean as you go along, it'll save you countless hours of boring and pointless welding and tweaking.

well video games are seen as entertainment, but if you start promoting rape as entertainment it's a bit of a blurred line, but as PONEY says - why is murder different to rape, both destroy a life, yet one is acceptable in a game, and one is not?

In some countries girls as young as 8 are married and popping out kids, but in some countries that is seen as a hideous crime. It's subjective and cultural. And I think we in the West have had enough experience murdering people in wars and civilian life that to ban a game because it might encourage one or two people to kill some other people is ludicrous, offensive even.

Did you actually play the first game? It had a pretty deep story with lots of outside influences from movies and books and such. It was never just "kill this guy with a blunt object" game, you would only think that if you played the very first level which was essentially a tutorial and showed you the basics of the gameplay.

I found it a thoroughly enjoyable game and I haven't stalked or killed anybody since playing the game over 4 or 5 years ago.

Games like "Barbie: Horsey Pony Madness 5" are more likely to make me want to kill someone.

It's just another lash-out against video games because some people that are crazy in the first place at one point or another played a video game then went and did something crazy X amount of time later. It's bullshit and lame imho.

Adults can choose to lube each other up and fuck every hole in each others body with any household or garden object but we can't sit in front of a tv screen and butcher some pixels after working all day for a system that dictates how we spend our lives. Fuckers.

dod:s maps have become so insanely boring.

they all look the same as far as textures, lighting, models, style everything.

No offence to your abilities to create a good map, but it's just so ... boring?

Which can then be assigned to the alpha channel of your diffuse or normal map.

But yeah, I will give the map A then map B method a try - it's just with HL2DM and CSS I never had to restart the game and it confused the hell out of me

i have models using cubemaps as their envmapmask - I have lots of cubemaps (ran buildcubemaps and reloaded the level too) - but the models are displaying horribly, all black and gay, as if they are not receiving any cubemap info - any ideas?!
