    ok what do you think?

    [Blocked Image: http://www.thomashess.net/hessis_smd_export.jpg]

wouldnt it be nice to have a working HL2 exporter for maya version greater than 7.0? and one that works with EP2 and EP1 content? and that works under windows vista?

your camera has some really short focal length. please use a smaller FOV. the proportions dont look right at all places. i think it would need a little tweaking to become "perfect". since i am low on time this is all i can tell you now. in any way i think you are improving a lot since i know your work for quite a couple of years now.

regarding the playtests. like 2 months before the release we had about 4 playtests of dod_kolsch with the E.i.B. Clan which is a german DOD:S clan that hosts several game servers. they helped finding bugs and general flaws. the dod:s community is small, i think we all know that but since i am dedicated to the game and warby and i started the map years ago you cant actually blame us for mapping for a game that has no community. regarding not having public playtests: there was one big reason for not doing so. probably you can figure that one out. maybe it correlates with my rant about the Source SDK's tools and developers?

in any way your post was a quality feedback. i really appreciate a feedback that consists of more than 2 sentences, combines positive and negative points (mark on the plural here) and giving probable solutions! this post could be linked as "how to give critics!".

newest version of crazybump also outputs AO maps

but crzy bump doesnt use modeled 3d information, right? afaik it applies some low pass filters onto the image to "reconstruct" the 3d from 2d.

i had a run through today. i dont know what you want to change, but as in general it seems a bit sktechy. dont get me wrong, the screenshots look great! but when i run through it i see so many things that just pop into my eyes or maybe even don't work. for example there are some stairs you have to walk on in the right angle otherwise you are clipped. then there is some weird behavior with the fog which appears only in close areas.

let me know if you want a bunch of images with comments or not!

of course there is a lot of nitpicking right now, but since everybody might expect something different this is ok. i just played it on a server and the people loved it. coming here and reading such comments really turns my happiness down.

regarding the scale: just read the story of dod_kolsch:

    http://www.thomashess.net/index.php?cat=7

so if you think this is a shit level: don't play it.

if you like it: come on one of the servers and have some fun.

i won't make those changes to the map. if there would be a critical server crash or something like that... well then i would fix it. but no more tweaking! would be nicer if you worth ship the hard work warby and i had!

I'm amazed you have so much time and talent to make such a gorgeous map. My only crit is the church...looks kinda science fiction to me. But....even that is not bad...actually...looks cool as fuck. Just kinda colossal I guess is what I'm trying to say.

how dare you! why criticize the cathedral? that's the best cathedral yet seen in any game! if it looks like science fiction then please never visit the real one!
