  • Teen Arrested for Counterstrike Map

I sure didn't get arrested when I made a map of my school after a shooting incident, I know it's a strange incident to get inspired to make a map from, but why not.

I don't know if you guys feel the same but I sure enjoy digitally shooting up the school.

(just sane enough not to get a real gun and do it for real)

I think it's ludicrous that someone get's arrested for making such a map, after all its still a game he's making a map for.

If it was that bad you could just make sure he doesn't publish it online.

for a live recording it's not bad, but I sure miss the vocals! Also, there's a lack of 'agression' IMO. GJ anyway. Now go pimp your myspace!

BTW: myspace is indeed widely used for bands to promote themselves. It's populair and effective so why not? Having a site is more something you do if you plan on going commercial (since it costs money).

Yes, real live we play a bit more agressive, that's one thing that i missed on the demo too, there's way more energy in our music when we are on stage or in the reharsal studio.

and we are working on our own site, but we need to be sure if we want to stick with skrothum as a name, and then... design something that's death metalish and has maybe a scrotum in it? will take a little while.

well, i followed the first mod tutorial, where i changed the RPG speed, those sort of things are easy to do, but making a new gameplay type, i don't know how easy or hard that is.

New gameplay modes take way more work than just editing some variables

But changing RPG speeds and playing that on lan with rpg only is well funny!

Spellbinder, as for the name, we're a bunch of stoners, first we came up with defecation but that was already taken and skrothum seemed to hang in there, we haven't really thought about our name alot yet, we just make music for now, it's nothing to do with shock value, we'd call ourselves Dying Fetus (already taken ) or something like that if we wanted shock value

We're working on a proper site but none of us can really make good sites (i can slap around some things in photoshop / notepad) so that's taking a bit longer than expected and myspace is a good place to get feedback, alot of people search for upcomming bands there.

Metal from the Netherlands, my first demo with my new band called 'Skrothum' was recorded just recently and i decided i'd post some tracks online for people to give a listen to.

    http://www.myspace.com/skrothum

There's 3 tracks on there of our 6 track demo.

There's no vocals yet, and the drummer didn't have any cumbals at the crappy studio we were in, but other than that and the second guitarist have an overdose of distortion i'm pretty happy with how it sounds, it's a live recording.

Hope you guys enjoy it or can give some tips as to where faults lie, there's some playing errors but we wanted to keep it live and not fidle with it too much, since this is how we sound live.

We could just start with deathmatch modes, and then later, if the coder is up for it, add maybe ctf, area cap or other interesting modes.

I think that would atleast give the mappers a goal to acheive for now.

I think maps with 10 spawns tops would be great, could make up some great speedy playing and it would also keep it easier for less experienced mappers to finish a map as it doesn't need to be huge, other gameplay modes can ofc acompany more spawns.

The first playmode that I'm thinking of is areal capture, as in Day of Defeat. The maps could have the full 64 players that source is capable of and this is easily made by just making the spawns big, BUT: Let's be realistic for a while. It's going to take a long while before there's even constant amount of 16 players on an average server, and chances are there won't be that many.So I'd make the maps pretty small, keeping the heat on at all times. Keep the spawns pretty big and near the action and make the place where action is going on a tad smaller.

You wanted fast gameplay right? Why don't we think of something with fewer players, that would get the servers filled up easier and fewer players means faster rounds etc. and often faster gameplay since you're in smaller maps etc.

Somehting like 4 on 4 combat or even 3 on 3.

I've really never liked playing these kind of games on a console, never can do what i want to do with a mouse, it's playable, just different which might become frustrating after a while.

  • How many of you wore a suit to your interview?

    • BioPulse
    • April 23, 2007 at 10:53 AM

I got a job at a local web development company qwearing a suffocation t-shirt and being a long haired bearded freak, i think mostly they look at your personality and how well spoken you are etc. and ofcourse your portfolio if required.

I think a suit would only decrease the chances of getting a job because you'd look like you need to make up for something else by trying to look really smart in a suit, like most here said, just dress up neatly, no weird logos or 'i love linux' t-shirts ;P and clean shoes, maybe a shave/trim of the beard, and some deadorant

Source uses c++ msvc++ i think is required because they use alot of microsoft libs.

I could have a go at the level design aspect and maybe create some kind of theme song or something but I'm a bit busy at the moment so I'll have a crack at it in a week or 2 when i have a week off

Had this error with one lightmap being shared across too many hitting faces seems like it comes up with a wide variety of problems.

Zombie@computer has got a brain the size of texas if you ask me, a few years ago he solved alot of my problems when vlatitude was still active (or well, when I was active on there... since I haven't looked on there for years)

But I think hessi, maybe your stairs had lightmap problems, since it's alot of faces and ususaly not alot of lightmaps, I ususaly find it better to make stairs in a modeling program if i can manage, since it allows you to be a tad more creative without such problems i think.

Will it be a single map project? Or will everyone who wants to be able to build their own map or scene for the mod?
