Well because i didn't knew, but it is defintely not bough yet . Money is an issue though. But yes i could buy the most amazing stuff indeed

And i wasn't looking well, the 660 ti is around 160€

That should be enough, and if it lags in 3 years. I will desactivate the much needed shaders for the real time reflections in water drops and the one for animated carpet hairs

Ahhh thanks a lot for all the details guys ! the 660ti looks pretty good and i found it around 230€, that should be legit for the next 5 years i hope. Not so much into putting many moneys for a harddrive, i guess i can wait on loadings for a bit longer. But maybe i'm missing some crucial interactions.

Now i just need to put myself into it ! it's hard to stay up to date and get good stuff for real, cause i don't really trust hardware tests on the net, it feels like being a neophyte plumber looking for something to fix his sink in some marrakech market.

    Hey Guys !

I'm pretty sure there's already a lot of these threads on the core already, but i guess since hardware evolves so quickly i would make a new one

I'm looking to buy a new computer to do 3D efficiently at home since i'm stuck on a crappy laptop for 2 years now. Speaking of hardware, i knew a little bit about it until i've stopped when they invented SATA harddrives, USB 2 and all of these super modern multi core processors for multithreading (impressive technology).

So uh, what would you advise me in term of GFX card of nowadays that is not a luxury jewel to show off, but something that isn't made to run dungeon keeper only. Well, something between the jaguar and the trabant, a toyota maybe?

Also what kind of cooling system would you advise me ? Fans only or more than that ? I always had trouble with heat and gfx cards.

Thanks guys sorry for being obsolete

Yeah that's the thing, i definitely take a pinch of salt. But indeed there's interesting stuff. I've saw several critics of the movie on so called subversive illuminatis conspirations and paranoia business websites. The movie definitely gives them something to write about because of its ethereal nature.

Like when the guy writes :

So, when the models ask Bill the go “where the rainbow ends”, they probably refer to going “where the elite gathers and performs rituals”. It might also be about them being dissociated Beta Programming slaves.

By an innocent movie critic you learn new strange vocabulary, want to know more and ultimately click on the ads. I would be more inclined to say that where the rainbow ends is where the leprechaun have his cauldron of gold but yeah that could be any interpretation indeed.

What drawn my attention, is when dr Bill is at the phone at the hooker flat. There's a book there called "introducing sociology". I have the feeling this is what the movie is about. That and how the style have the primat over anything else.

Needs more beers and doobies really, and i'm off for the night.

edit : pretty much spot on critic i found i think http://www.visual-memory.co.uk/amk/doc/0096.html

@Koko: What do you mean by saying "the story is completely futile"? It's been a while that I watched the movie, but I remember it being about temptation, egoism and the way these things put ourselves and our beloved ones in danger.

    Huge spoilers

    Quote

Well by the story, i don't mean the movie. I was pitched into it as a psychological drama over couple, masculine and feminine desires, temptation, deception; so i first tried to read it with the couple perspective in mind.

it's futile in the sense that what the characters are doing is futile, and so i felt their story to be. They have desires, temptations but at the same time you aren't really sure if they desire something at all. They feel so shallow and what they desire is so meaningless, having sex with two girls, fancy orgies, being part of the upper world, Alice in that matter doesn't strike me to desire anything, she is just bored and doesn't dream of love or romance, she dreams of being sadistic and make her husband suffer; and they do it pretty much like automatons would do, conforming to a style, emotionlessly.

Like in Barry Lyndon, everything is well draped in distinction, elegance; Especially by contrast, because you clearly see the difference between the environments of the lower classes and those of the upper classes. In both everything is artificial but in a different way. The lower classes are flooding in frontal kitsch : bright offensive lights, christmas decorations, oppressively colorful paintings in the couple apartment. Whereas for the upper classes the kitsch disappear and leaves place to classical art, liturgy, demonstration, manners, costumes, style and distinction; in a sense, a much more expensive and exquisite sense of unreality (but at the same time you clearly see the pianist playing in full light, all of his electronic set up in plain view in the liturgical part giving the trick away).

So if you look through the meaningless mystifying wall of smoke, you discover a really morbid universe where doctor Bill ultimately always ends up paying the bill (he throws money at people the whole movie) and that the distinguished orgy ends up just being about fucking hookers like Ziegler does in the intimacy of his toilets.

An interesting thing is also how doctor Bill is confounded in front of the masked crowd and how he has to take his mask away, and then afterwards is asked to take his clothes off; as if appearing human in front of a costumed crowd marks his distinction. What is natural is trivial and therefore is rejected, as are the women nude bodies being objectified into style. Feelings are natural and that's why i think the movie feels so cold, they just aren't there.

So you are right i think; It's definitely not about sex, relationships or the like. I think it's much more a movie about power and manipulation (like a lot of Kubrick's movies). While being mystified, doctor Bill forget everything, he forget about the murder of the hooker, forget about the child prostitution in the costume shop. He sees but doesn't react, he stays passive bow down and ends the movie centred about his couple.

And most importantly he forget about his daughter and let her mother dragging her away from him, (you don't see their daughter alone without her mother anywhere in the movie) until she disappear looking at her oblivious dad in the toys supermarket at the end while following three guys which were at ziegler party at the beginning of the movie.

Like him the audience is drawn by the hypnotic nature of the movie (rhythm and length), its story is firmly grounded in reality and the movie is trying to make you believe it's lyrical.

Well lol, i'm having so much fun, sorry about that. At first it felt like meh, and as much as i gnaw on the bone, the more i like it. Which is just that in the end really, but i like it. Absolutely not disapointed, it's probably my favourite Kubrick movie i think .

I forced myself this evening and watched Eyes wide shut.

Well i didn't really wanted to see it because of kidman and cruise but also the theme of couple, fantasm and deception which i found to be moving me one without touching the other.

Well as i would have guessed the photo is amazing, soundtrack is too. The slow pace of the movie and the seamless switch between real and unreal makes it really hypnotic (also dangerous desires and mysterious tits help). But at the same time i felt the movie to be completely emotionless. Like it's considering a theme which is all about emotions, but turn it into a cold, distant, legitimately elegant piece of marble.

It's like the movie didn't wanted me to get into it by putting that distance, firstly by the choice of the main actors which are completely souless and staged as in how misplaced they are (but on second thought are completely spot on). And at the same time, in contrast, some secondary actors who sound more just than cruise and kidman.

The story is completely futile, without the superb plasticity it just couldn't be possible to watch that from start to end in 2 and half hours with that rhythm. I find it to sometime deliberately reach real close to grotesque as was the whole scene with rich people doing liturgic orgies in a luxurious manor with masks and then how grotesque the rest of the movie turn into a shallow thriller plot ending on nothing.

So i was watching it from afar and it definitely feels more like a movie about form and style, than about the content. As if it was composed to be seen this way. Maybe a movie about how kubrick makes cinema ? Well at least i guess that's what it is.

edit : Or maybe it's meant to be seen from afar because it's about the sociological theory of social class and how people live with their roles in society. Because most of the movie seems to be more about power than sexual desire, money is subtly everywhere in the movie. Well, i just don't know anymore.

edit2 : Or i read somewhere it could be a movie dedicated to his daughter ( as the character of the couple child we don't see much) who he never saw again before his death when she joined the church of scientology.

How i hate such drums and the douchebags who play them. One of the few things that totally kill my zen. Ther's this annoying "samba"-band in my town who plays under my window all day long everytime when there is an event, which feels like at least once a month. No surprise a while ago they were assaulted by someone who lost his mind over this torture.

Well what works the best for me to not be smoking is to not have any tobacco at home. I just remind me how expensive it is, and how far the shop is.

I completely agree with you mino about being an hedonist drunkard with baileys and a smoke on a sunday morning. But at least for me 100% control if pretty much an illusion, i know what the kokos of today is thinking, but i don't know about the kokos of tomorrow ! There's moments of stress i would totally jump and smoke 30 rolled cigarettes a day like before if i had some at hand.

I mean just writing about it, my leg is shaking and i would totally smoke one slowly to remember how it is. Terrible shit

I've stopped coffee and cigarette 6 months ago, it's still going fine ! But like you Thrik i had my heart racing (or more like pounding in a pressuring way) in the morning or when i was exhausted. I went to check my blood pressure, it happens to be a bit high.

I was freaking out it could have been something with my heart, so i checked a cardiologist but that happened to be just stress, probably because i stopped smoking from one day to the other and maybe a general addition of annoyances at the same time.

So to say i replaced coffee with chicory, it's not as good at first but about some days i found it taste almost the same. Makes a good substitute

Looks damn cool, although this video is kinda vague about the gameplay. The only thing i saw was a simple flat 2D rts on a screen. Wish it's much more than that !

Now let's do the same thing with a pirate ship in 1600 with a crew to manage, mutinies, naval battles, cities to plunder, pirate duels, and fighting mechanics inspired by chivalry.

    Don't stole me the idea.

That is really good there's no bitterness, it will still makes a good friend indeed, and who knows. But i'd say be careful to not allow your desire for her to haunt your heart when you will find another girl to love ! But hah, it's your call and it's another story

Yes dude totally, i wasn't meaning a completely cynical mind doing evil maths. I just meant someone who needs to flirt and seduce at some point and then stop for a minute and realise she was a bit too enthusiastic when the relationship get ahead of the flirtatious stage. Pretty normal stuff. If she knew what she wanted it's much better this way than engage in a bad relationship, so she did good for both of you to stop at this point i think.

Just to say make it easy on yourself, you don't have to throw you rocks dude ! If you think you've done an error or anything of the like.

We probably have too much expectations because of porn and girls probably have too much expectations because of Julia Roberts.

She probably wanted to feel a bit better about herself blackdog. And well, not any further, at your cost. After 5 years of relationship, you don't want to get engaged in something, but you still need to prove to yourself you are able to seduce again i guess. Which didn't mean she was thinking badly of you, she probably though you were a good call, because to feel good about herself, she needs to seduce someone worth something in her eyes.

Anyway, all the best man! take care, pass and i am sure you will definitely find someone for you.

Also i noticed that Liam, fell on the charm right away.
