I started learning Substance Designer few weeks ago after being super hesitant for a long time. I always thought it wouldn't feel like proper art making but now i'm loving it. This is one of my first attempts at a proper Substance, all procedural:

Problem is that ther's a thousand possible reasons for facial pains and headaches. I went to dentist, ENT, eye doctor, MRI already.

If wisdom teeth arn't the cause then my doc will send me to a neurologist and get a cat scan of my neck as the next steps.

What kind of headaches are they? Are they migraines? Are you noticing any patterns when they appear?

I get short (couple seconds to a minute max) but frequent nerve pains mostly around my left eye and temple area and in worst case up into my brain. Feels kinda like when you have a sentitive tooth and drink something hot or cold. On good days i only have it once or twice but on bad days it happens a few times per hour and have a constant but subtle pain lingering in addition.

It's pretty annoying. Nothing life threatening tho, already had a brain scan that showed nothing.

I feel tempted by the environments but i don't know if i could get over the unlikable main characters. They give me gonorrhea just looking at them.

I lost 15 kg aswell this year. From 98kg to 83kg

No diet, no sport, just less junk food and chocolate.

But other then that life hasn't been so great. I suffer from chronic facial pains and headaches that come and go since last summer

Went to a lot of doctors already with no results. Soon will get my wisdom teeth out and my dentist is trying to fix my bite. I hope one of those is the reason but it's a bit a shot in the dark.

Yes Blender has splines but i used a different method that i found to be much more suitable for modeling this type of ornaments from ref. Which is also the reason why i learn Blender. This technique doesn't work in max or at least it would be much more cumbersome. Basicly in Blender you can create polystrips like for retopo that have depth and curvature to them but you can do it mid air easily which i'm using for the outer shapes and edge flow and then you have some very powerful scripts to fill in and create polies which are context sensitive and all use the same keyboard shortcut.

Here is a video demonstrating the technique:

Blender also has another alternative/extension to splines which is some next level shit called bsurfaces:

Except for some villages there are no areas with low immigration anymore. My town of 32000 people received 1200 refugees in the last couple months, most of which i assume are muslims. I would think that's about comparable to what similar sized towns in the western federal states had like ten years ago after decades of slow but steady immigration from these parts of the world. That's quite a drastic change of the demographic make-up in such a short time with the projection for the end of the year being in the 3000 range, almost 10% of the population then. I don't know what to tell people who don't see this as a troubling outlook. What's worse is there literally is no work here for these people even if they were allowed and qualified to work. Truth be told i don't see Merkel's plan of "Wir schaffen das" to work in any way, shape or form.

It's funny because if all Muslims were violent fanatics then you would think that their Christian and atheist neighbors would be the first to complain about them. But instead it's the people who are afraid of the foreign(ers). And sadly these people also generalize a lot. I guess this can be seen at a bigger scale in all of Europe nowadays.

That's a bit of a fallacy. Of course you have less opposition to muslimic immigration where a large amount of the voters already have a muslimic background. And even then the picture isn't as clear cut. When you take a closer look at the local voting results it shows that the right wing party actualy gets more votes in the more multicultural areas, contrary to what the left always preaches. The only exceptions are communities with a strong left wing alternative scene. In the western federal states it was particularey interesting that voters with migration background were more likely to vote AfD then ethnic Germans.

The whole "people in the east don't know muslims therefore they oppose muslims" is a huge misconception if you ask me. It has more to do with people comparing their mostly homogenous and peaceful communities with the often problem ridden multiculral communities in western cities. The wall has been down for 25 years. It's misguided to assume people in the east still live in their own little bubble with no contact and information from the outside world.

Fuck surveillance. The bodies are still warm yet and politicians scream for more surveillance once again. How convenient these attacks are for them because that's what they always wanted isn't it? I compared this yesterday with having rotten teeth and instead of getting root canals the dentist gives you x-rays every day.

Sorry to hear that. I was probably one of the first to buy it since Vuk informed me. Haven't played it yet tho, but definitely will when the full release is out. Needs some good promotions and sales to kick off probably. Insurgency started a bit slow but we are at 2.3 million owners now i believe. The Steam sales always helped tremendously and after that word of mouth.

Steppenwolf its not the complexity that bothers me but the usability. The photoshop plugin for example doesnt load automatically so if you forget to load it manually (which i do practically always) it will not tell me that i have to check out a file until i am done doing my edits and what to save it and than I might find out that it has been checked out/locked (btw why isnt that one button/prompt that does both !?!?!?) by someone else the whole time.

The Maya plugin on the other hand does load automatically but it doesnt care what repository/stream/workspace/branch a file is in it will try to check it out from what ever repo the P4V tool last used and more often than not that file doesnt exist in that repo giving you a cryptic error msg and NO OPTION TO SWITCH REPOSITORIES.

The windows explorer shell extension has the same problem + its missing a fuckton of functionality D:

Perforce on a whole is also oblivious to new files having been created inside your repo folde until you run that "reconcile offline work button" which btw takes AGES to analyse our project ( tortoise svn does practically the same thing as its default behavior and its near instant ) and not a day goes by without me having to track down some person that hasnt committed all of their source files because perforce ignored their creation ... so yeah I hate the manual "mark for add".

There is a million other small shortcomings ... I could rant for hours or days about how much I hate perforce.

We've never had such a complex workflow for artists. I basically just submitted my stuff and occasionaly reverted some files. With the UE4 plugin files get checked out, added and deleted automatically. It's straightforward.

I never had to use plugins for PS and Max either. We only submit source files occasionaly for backup and on request. Would be pretty crazy to keep them up to date constantly with people working from around the world and having all kinds of shitty internet speeds especially when it comes to psd's.

I guess Plastic would be your thing if you work with a lot of different repositories and branches. It's also very strict about the files and things not getting messed up in the process but then that comes at the price of different workflow nightmares.

Lots of buttons and options but as an artist you only use like 4-5 of them on a daily base. It's really not that complicated. And with engine integration it's even more straightforward.

Ah you've used Plastic? So it's not as good for artists as it claims to be? I had a feeling when I read their site that it might be too good to be true. They are essentially claiming they have the best of git and perforce with semantic diff/merge (albeit I think only for C#, C++ I guess might be a lot more difficult to do).

What did you not like about it relative to perforce?

It's just not simple and straightforward at all to submit stuff. We constantly run into some issues because Plastic is anal about something. And it can be quite time consuming to submit even a small change if your workspace isn't up to date or someone else submitted something while you were uploading your files. It's quite bad for productivity.

Perforce is my favourite of the ones that i've worked with. Currently we're using Plastic and i think it's pretty horrible for art/design people. Coders seem to love it tho.

I've always picked personal projects that are different from what i do at the job. When i did level design for shooter games as job i made two racetracks for rfactor in my freetime. Last couple years i spent making art for realistic environments on the job and my personal projects were scifi related. Another "project" was to get better at digital painting. I have some lose plans for my next project, want to do something super ornamental and baroque.

I got AC: Syndicate on the Winter sale. Like AC: Unity this is such an inspiring game for env art. I spent more time analyzing and making screenshots then playing.
