  • Best Terminator film?

The first one scared the shit out of me when I first saw it. I'd say T1 was the better of the two when it came to the scare-factor but T2 was an all-round entertainer. Robert Patrick's icy demeanour and fast running put the shits up me, too. Plus, with his liquid metal weapons he was completely creepy. It had the machine learning to be human angle, some memorable lines and some good bits of humour, too.

T3 was... urgh. It was almost like watching a parody. It was like the people behind it were so scared of going up against the previous films' reputations that they just didn't try to do something comparable. Way too much in the way of humour and gimmicks. The 'Terminatrix' was one big gimmick with a load of crap lines -- do us a favour, love, Mr. Patrick already has the 'look scary and run fast' market cornered. The acting & characters were also hammy. John was a whiny little bitch and Katherine was a predictable nu-woman with bigger balls than John. It was just irritating to watch plus, as D3ads pointed out, they fucked up the entire plot, even if the final twist was unexpected. The action scenes were good (especially the crane chase), but that was about all I can say in its favour.

I'm going to look like a hobo when I graduate . I haven't had my hair cut in about 6 months now and on any given day it can either look vaguely stylish or, as is more often the case, like I've got some kind of portable Van De Graft Generator permanently running.

You could just split the wall at the point where the green stops (i.e. bottom segment = greenish colour, top segment = white plaster) and have it follow the stairs as it goes down to the bottom floor like \___ this.

Alternatively, put something in the corner to break up the texture transition.

IMO the best part is the way the colours, skybox & fog blend together beautifully It's totally seamless and enhances things a lot.

I just wish I had the time to enter this thing; it looks like a lot of fun

I'm working on a little generator room to house nooba's model and bloody hell, I never realised how hard it is to make a scene in max. Is there any way to set up the camera to be like worldcraft? The camera in max is fine when you're modelling single objects, but when you're making rooms etc it soon becomes very cumbersome to navigate, especially when you have the pivots set up in a way that zooming extents means you end up with a really poor focus.

    Quote from nooba

Will a .max file be alright? or would you like a .obj file?

.max is fine if it's max8 or below (I've got max8, so if you've got max9 then it'll have to be .obj or .3ds)

It's C++ & D3D and yes, I will release the code soon if anyone wants it

I'll have to rejig a few things as currently it needs a shader model 3.0 card and depth stencil surfaces (NVIDIA only) for the shadow maps. I can replace the depth stencil stuff to make it work on ATI cards, but it will need shader model 3.0 regardless

Did you follow up on any of the applications and ask them how you could improve your chances? (particularly the ones where you made it to the interview stage.)

    .obj would be fine.

You can either upload and send me a link, or send it to (I think gmail allows big file sizes).

    Thanks a lot

Looks good, but it doesn't look like it's ready to just drop into a game (needs to be lower poly & textured rather than just using materials in a 3d package)

I've always been told smart casual, but if in doubt you could always just ask.

    nooba: Definitely

    R_Yell: That'd be perfect!

Meotwister: Anything, really. I'll sort through the stuff I receive and try to group it into scenes (assuming I get enough). I'm not going to ask anyone to work like a demon to make stuff for me, it's more along the lines of "do you have any spare stuff kicking about that might be suitable" What did you have in mind?
