    Quote from Campaignjunkie

It's amazing how the author(s) wrote so much, yet said so little. Seemed like a pretty generic article to me. But then again, I don't think I'm the IGN target audience anyway.

Exactly my thinking. I'm not speaking badly of the game (only played the demo, which was enjoyable enough), but their dev process on the levels was hardly breakthrough or worth shouting about. As you say though, this is an article on IGN, not Develop or Gamasutra or something.

My 6800GT broke a few days ago and I'm only sending it off to get repaired/replaced today. I'm gonna have to play it on a ti4400...so much for HDR

I've not really done any level design in a few months - kinda burnt out at the moment. I'd like to see it finished someday, but I've a lot of stuff going on at uni just now (honours year, eek!) so I've gotta prioritise. Thanks for the encouragement though I've updated the news post with your new URL.

Looks good mate, best of luck with it I posted a news post on the snarkpit to hopefully drum up a little more publicity.

The little DOD and Splinter Cell posters look lonely up on that big wall Nice place though, I'm a sucker for wooden floors.

The NES controller was about the least comfortable controller in the history of gaming I'd say if that racing wheel attachment existed, the triggers should be accelerate and brake and the buttons should be for shifting.

Haven't seen a thread for this, and while it is a movie, I figure its pretty closely linked with games and so isn't too out of place in this forum section.

Anyway, just got the fansubbed version of this and watched it today. I've been following its progress since it was first announced so its great to have finally seen it. While in some regards it doesn't quite meet my expectations, overall its a hugely enjoyable and exciting movie, and it looks wonderful. I can't imagine anybody who didn't play/like FFVII to really enjoy it though - as many have said, this is pure fanservice and wouldn't make much sense to an outsider. Hell, it didn't make much sense to me at points, despite being the successor to one of my favourite and most played games!

    Other people's thoughts?

Just keep the texture tool on "lift and select", and when you want to APPLY that texture and values, RIGHT CLICK on a face rather than left click.

I know its a promo video so should be taken with a pinch of salt, but check this out for some "demonstrations" of the controller in use...

    http://cube.ign.com/articles/651/651334p1.html

My initial reaction was "WTF? One handed? Bugger all buttons? Eh?!", but having read a bit about it, watched the video, and considered how it could be used for different games, I'm pretty keen on the idea. I wouldn't like to have the revolution as my only console, but paired up with something more orthodox it could be a very fun thing to own.

I went to Greece to spend a week on a boat, and the weather was so damn unstable and changeable that we only got out of port for one night Nice enough back in Scotland though - unremarkable but thats the norm really.

Doesn't really have any appeal to me - I'd prefer something more sizeable to gain a larger screen and bigger device to hold.

I'm actually somewhat surprised to see nobody has put Ubisoft, given their huge range of great games. If I had one western developer in my list, it would probably be them. Couldn't get down to specific studios or anything like that, but their entire range have put out so many good games its hard to find fault with them.

Why the hatred of Rockstar, Andrew? I'm not a huge fan of them (barely touched any GTA game since the first) myself, just curious though

I had always enjoyed playing games, but I think I really became a gamer when I opened the box of my new Amiga 500+ and started playing the 3 bundled games - Bart vs. the Space Mutants, Captain Planet (yeah, thats right), and....you know I really can't remember the other one. Thankfully I had a good source of games at that point despite my measly available funds, so I soon got into some better games like Civ, Dune 2, and Monkey Island.

The BF games are made by DICE (also known as Digital Illusions I believe), as are the Rallisport Challenge games on Xbox, which adds more justification for having them as one of your favourites Epic / Digital Extremes made the UT games.

Wish it was a multiplayer demo I don't really play any RTS games on my own, but we used to have some great LAN games in our flat with 5 of us playing AOE2. I'll hold out for a multiplayer one I think.

I wouldn't like to put any order on them, but my top 5 picks are...

Smilebit: Jet Set Radio series, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Gunvalkyrie

Team Ninja: DOA series, Ninja Gaiden

Squaresoft: Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy series, Front Mission series, etc...

Namco: Soul Calibur series, Ridge Racer series, Tekken series

Capcom: Resident Evil series, Street Fighter series, Clock Tower series, Viewtiful Joe series, Dino Crisis series, etc...

Of course I wouldn't really imagine myself working for any of these companies, what with them all being Japanese. But they do make exceedingly good games

Got myself a grip / battery thing that makes the PSP much more comfortable to hold and play, and apparently about doubles the battery life. Its a very handy thing to have, and considering it was under £10 its a real bargain. Not sure how much battery life it REALLY adds yet (only tested to see it works), and probably not the amount it advertises given the low price, but I'm happy enough with it purely from a grip point of view. I thoroughly recommend it to anybody

Got a snes emulator on my PSP now, so I really did get my portable Front Mission Runs a bit slowly unfortunately, which spoils some games a lot, but front mission works well enough since speed isn't really essential. Never played the early games so that alone has made me happy Going to the toilet has never been so much fun!

Still no lumines though, which completely sucks as I'm going on holiday early morning on monday so won't have it with me

I do love a bit of Ridge Racer, but the series peaked at the awesome 4 and then both 5 and R:Racing just let me down. I KNOW this new one is amazing as there doesn't seem to be anyone who thinks otherwise, but I can't help but feel a little disillusioned. I'll definately end up getting both it and wipeout, and most likely Burnout Legends as well, but its which one to invest in first that has me stuck. I'll probably check out what they have in duty free when I'm off on my holidays and maybe pick one up then

Woohoo, my Japanese PSP arrived today, and thankfully it has v1.5 firmware! Spiderman 2 (game) came with it and while its nothing special, its better than nothing I guess. I also have Metal Gear Acid, which from my uber short playing time (about 95% of which was intro stuff and the rest a short tutorial) seems pretty rocking. Looks awesome visually and I do enjoy a bit of turn based strategy, while the random card system and hunting down all 200 of them should provide plenty of replayability. If they bring me a portable Front Mission, even a port or collection of the earlier ones, I'd be uber happy Lumines rounds off my collection thus far, but it still hasn't arrived

I'm a big racing game fan so the PSP wins out by a mile for me...even if I haven't actually bought a racing game for it yet The problem is I can't decide which! Wipeout, Ridge Racer, TOCA, and Burnout Legends are all looking awesome, but I simply can't buy them all! Plus I love FFVII far more than I should, so the fact Crisis Core (whatever it is) is coming out in the PSP is another clincher DS does have some interesting looking games on it, but there is far more that interests me that is out or coming out on the PSP. Plus mp3/video/homebrew support - uber I'm thinking of doing a bit of dev for it myself actually.
